  • The Body Knows: Healing, Intuition & Purpose with Kiara Low Dog

    Video available over on Substack!!

In this podcast episode of Benevolence, I speak with a true treasure of the southwest, Kiara Low Dog. I met Kiara while taking part in the Wise Woman Medicine Retreat at the Medicine Lodge Ranch in New Mexico, taught by her gorgeous māmā, Tieraona Low Dog, MD. Facilitated by Kiara, these few days together in community with beautiful and courageous women from all around the United States, while newly pregnant with my son was a real treat. During this time at the Medicine Lodge Ranch, I was fascinated to learn more about Kiara's work and ongoing studies in astro-herbalism. There is an ease and care with which she speaks and holds space… which overflows in her generosity throughout this conversation.

Kiara invites us to consider a greater fluency with our innate wisdom: what does it mean to listen to our bodies? What happens when we ignore that wisdom? And how do we learn to trust ourselves?

On October 18, Kiara and Moriamo Sulaiman-Ifelodun will hold a 6-session virtual workshop, The Intuitive Herbalist. You can sign up by using this special discount code: EARLYBIRD.

I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.

    In gratitude, Shannon

  • The Wisdom of the Seasons, with Marysia Miernowska

I can't think of a more fitting conversation with which to begin Benevolence. ✨ In this episode, I speak with Marysia Miernowska. Herbalist, author, earth activist, and founder of the School of the Sacred Wild. Marysia has generously offered four teachings around the Apprenticeship to the Sacred Wild. We move through the seasons as a framework for healing, resilience, and transformation. From autumn's release and root work, to winter's dreaming, spring's renewal, and summer's abundance.

Marysia weaves plant wisdom with nervous system regulation, reciprocity, and becoming more fully rooted in life. She is a SENSATIONAL woman and teacher, and I am so grateful to her for offering such a beneficial conversation.

📝 So grab a journal, or revisit this later to take notes! Here's a little more about what we will be moving through:

🍂 Fall: release, grounding, nourishment, and nervous system exhale ❄️ Winter: dreaming, surrender, mystery, and protection of the inner spark 🌸 Spring: renewal, detoxification, creativity, and upward movement 🌞 Summer: fruition, abundance, generosity, and reciprocal care And if you feel like sharing, I'd love to know your musings in the comments section! 🕵🏽‍♂️ Explore the Apprenticeship to the Sacred Wild 🌀 Learn more about Marysia 📸 Follow Marysia on Instagram Subscribe to withbenevolence.substack.com

  • Gardening Toward Motherhood: Seed Wisdom Without Certainty

In this episode, I reflect on my pregnancy and how planting a garden with my partner changed everything.

We planted our first garden just before conceiving, with German chamomile, lemon verbena, and calendula, and while harvesting, I began to see how seeds mirror pregnancy, motherhood, and the unseen growth in what we sow.

Tending life is an act of faith. Whether you're navigating pregnancy, or not, I hope this wee episode invites you to consider what you are planting, and what future it may shape.

  • The Aspen Tree: A Symbol of Community

Thank you for connecting with Herba as I ease-fully bring this project back into the pod space!

In this episode, I reflect on community, following a recent visit to an Aspen Grove.

This is but one medicinal story, an offering and musing I received when strolling through this community of trees.

    Enjoy!

  • A Plant and a Pivotal Moment: Motherwort (Leonurus Cardiaca)

In these first few episodes, we're getting a lay of the land as I introduce what gave rise to this podcast. Remembering that plants were here for me in a post-pandemic world was a humbling time. And there was one plant that took on the form of the much needed mothering spirit I was yearning for, and that is ABSOLUTELY responsible for Herba—Motherwort (Leonurus Cardiaca).

    Happy listening!

  • My Journey to Herba

Over these first few short 'n sweet episodes, I want to lay the groundwork and introduce you to the seeds that were planted in the richness of change, which ultimately became 'Herba'. Like the fertile grounds of manure and compost, there is always something we can do with the pieces we have left.
