Sense of the Absurd Required!
A certain type of sense of humor, one that I guess I share with Edwin O'Connor, makes this one of my all time favorites. Not everybody gets it but having re-read it several times, I still guffaw and quote it often.
Fun book for older children and adults.
As a child, I loved this book. As an adult, I still love this book. It has very sarcastic and somewhat dark humor! Delightful
A quick, fun read for late elementary or even adult
A fun read for a late elementary age kid, and for an adult. The story is mostly silly, but slyly written so that the sarcism is mostly funny for an adult while not over the head of a juvenile reader. Plus, a quick read for a good reader. The story is much like something from Saki's collection "The Story Teller", but the sarcasm is much less subtle.
A Children's Book Loaded with Sexual Innuendo and Death?
A deliciously dark and twisted farce masquerading as a children's book. This is the one to get, as the amazing illustrations were replaced when it was reprinted decades later.
