This evening we discuss reading Bereishit as a process of evolutionary creation, and we explore Ramban's teaching on what that means for us in our spiritual lives. This is partially based on an essay by Rabbi Yaakov Neuberger, and helps explain the purpose of the tests we face in life - God helping us create ourselves just as God creates everything else. We analyze the dispute between the moon and the sun, and the way for us to earn God's admiration expressed by the Prophetess Devora. And we trace the explanation of Rabbi Yehuda Amital in understanding how the murder of Hevel by his brother Kayin, is a relevant lesson for us today.
