The government has implemented multiple Movement Control Orders (MCOs) in a bid to combat COVID-19. This has caused schools to close and transition to online learning via multiple means, such as through Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Google Meets.
With such a disruption, there have been changes to the literacy and education rate in Malaysia, affected by things such as internet infrastructure, connectivity issues and engagement. Like the wealth gap, the education gap in Malaysia would have been affected, or even widened as other factors, like financial means affect the quality of education. It is an important topic as we have lapsed into another MCO. The current generation of those affected by distance learning are those that will be leading the country in the future, and it is important that such concerns and effects of COVID-19 are raised to spread awareness.
