The DSTV Premiership is in full swing and we have a full round of fixtures this weekend with all the BIG clubs in action. As usual, host Carl Lewis and coach and analyst Grant de Smidt go through the biggest games including Monday's Tshwane Derby between Mamelodi Sundowns and Supersport United.

But before that, we have a cracker of a match in KZN as Amazulu host Kaizer Chiefs. On Saturday we'll see the struggling Orlando Pirates face Lamontville Golden Arrows. There's also a coastal derby as Chippa United host Cape Town City.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals are set to lock horns in Match No. 3 of the SA20 2023 on Thursday, January 12. The match will take place at St George's Park in Gqeberha.

The Sunrisers will be captained by Aiden Markram, who has not only been a reliable batter for South Africa but also in franchise leagues around the world. There’s no lack of firepower in their lineup as they have the likes of Tom Abell and Tristan Stubbs in the middle order.

Sarel Erwee and JJ Smuts should open the batting. Brydon Carse and Sisanda Magala have made impressive starts to their international careers and a lot will depend on them. Roelof van der Merwe and Marco Jansen are potent all-rounders and need to step up.

The Capitals, on the other hand, have one of the best lineups in the tournament, if not the best. Will Jacks and Phil Salt are explosive batters and should open the batting. Cameron Delport and Rilee Rossouw are both reliable and explosive, giving solidity to the middle order.

Anrich Nortje is among the fastest bowlers going around and a lot will depend on him. The Capitals also have potent pacers in Daryn Dupavillon, Wayne Parnell and Migael Pretorius. James Neesham and Senuran Muthusamy are more than handy all-rounders and can be mightily effective.

Host Carl Lewis and cricket punter Lwanele Poswayo preview the Durban Super Giants v Joburg Super Kings - the two sides will lock horns in the second game of the SA20 2023 on Wednesday (January 11) in Kingsmead, Durban.

The Giants will be captained by Quinton de Kock, who's one of the most powerful strikers of the ball. Johnson Charles is a globetrotter in T20s and is likely to open with De Kock. Heinrich Klaasen and Christiaan Jonker will bring in a lot of power in the middle order.

Jason Holder and Dwaine Pretorius are handy all-rounders, and a lot will depend on them. Keshav Maharaj and Akila Dananjaya should take care of the spin-bowling department. Hardus Viljeon, Reece Topley and Junior Dala are the specialist pacers in the team.

The Kings, meanwhile, will be captained by Faf du Plessis, who's fresh from playing for Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League. Janneman Malan and Kyle Verreynne have put in strong performances for South Africa, so the Kings will look up to them to repeat those exploits in franchise cricket.

Alzarri Joseph will be high on confidence after becoming the leading wicket-taker in international cricket last year. Romario Shepherd is a big man and is more than effective as an all-rounder. Lewis Gregory will need to bring to the fore the truckload of experience he has.

The inaugural season of the SA20 gets underway in a couple days time, starting on the 10th January with MI Cape Town facing Paarl Royals in the season opener. 22 games will be played in the next two weeks, before we have the unusual situation of a mid season break for nine days so South Africa can play an important ODI series against England. After that, the remaining eight matches will be played, with semi-finals taking place on the 8th & 9th February and the final on the 11th.

It looks to be a straight semi-final format, with 1st vs 4th & 2nd vs 3rd, which I wouldn’t be a fan of, the page play-off format is much better and actually rewards the teams that play well during the group stages.

Lwanele Poswayo is joined by UFC expert Asher Arenz as the pair predict every UFC champion in 2023 from the Women’s Strawweight Division to the Men’s Heavyweight Division. They also look at some of the dark horses to look out for this year.

Australia have not won a home Test series against South Africa in 16 years but they are shaping up well ahead of this winter's highly-anticipated three-match series against the Proteas, which starts at the Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday.

South Africa have prevailed on each of their last three visits down under - in 2008-09, 2012-13 and 2016-17 - but the Aussies sit comfortably atop the current World Test Championship standings and are fresh from a confidence-boosting series win over the West Indies.

Australia beat the Windies by 164 runs and 419 runs in two matches at the start of December and they are 2-9 to record another series triumph against South Africa.

A key battle of the contest will be between the two high-class bowling units, which both contain top-quality pacemen.

Australia have faced a couple of selection headaches in that department with Josh Hazlewood set to miss the first Test, while captain Pat Cummins was absent for the second match against the Windies but is expected to return.

One bowler definitely in line to feature, though, is Scott Boland, who was the unlikely hero of Australia's Ashes triumph last year and took three wickets in one over against the Windies last week.

Boland has played only four Tests but has taken 21 wickets and could be Australia's most potent bowler at the Gabba.
