Golf punter Wade Pretorius previews two tournaments this week, the controversial LIV Golf event in London and a solid field at the RBC Canadian Open.

In Canada,

Rory McIlroy can rewrite the history books with a victory at the 2022 RBC Canadian Open, which gets underway on Thursday, June 9. McIlroy is the defending champion of this event and he'll become just the seventh player to successfully defend his title with a win at St. George's Golf and Country Club. McIlroy is part of a loaded RBC Canadian Open 2022 field, which also includes fellow major champions like Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Shane Lowry and Patrick Reed. 

In London,

Dustin Johnson quickly became the face of this venture, with rumors of a huge payday taking him to the Saudi Arabia-funded tour. He’s the betting favorite this week, followed by Louis Oosthuizen, Talor Gooch, Sergio Garcia and Kevin Na.

Overall, 16 of the Official World Golf Ranking’s top 100 are in the field. Hudson Swafford is the only player who has won this season on the PGA TOUR at the American Express in January.

Most of the other familiar names will come in the form of former European Ryder Cup players. Garcia headlines the group, and he’s joined by Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter and Bernd Wiesberger.

Johnson and Garcia are two of four Masters champions in the field, along with Charles Schwartzel and the newly included Phil Mickelson.

Two-time major champion Martin Kaymer and former US Open winner Graeme McDowell are among the veterans in the field.

Golf punter Wade Pretorius provides his best betting tips for The Memorial Tournament in 2022 at Muirfield.

The 2022 Memorial Tournament takes place this week and, perhaps, no event on tour has given Jon Rahm the spectrum of emotions as this one. Two years ago, Rahm's win here elevated him to the World No. 1 for the first time in his career. But last year, he appeared to be on his way to another victory with a six-stroke lead after 54 holes but was then forced to withdraw due to a positive COVID-19 test. The now-World No. 2 will be hoping for a result more aligned with the former than the latter when the Memorial Tournament 2022 tees off Thursday from Muirfield Village Golf Club.

Rahm is one of eight former champions in the field, and they will compete for the $12 million prize pool with $2.16 going to the victor. The Spaniard is the favourite in the latest 2022 Memorial Tournament odds from Caesars Sportsbook, while Rory McIlroy is right behind. Other contenders include defending champion Patrick Cantlay, Jordan Spieth and Collin Morikawa. 

The Celtics, currently tied with the Lakers at 17 titles, will look to add banner No. 18 to the TD Garden rafters. The Warriors will try to add title No. 7 to their record books.

This is going to be a star-studded affair featuring the Celtics' elite defense going up against an equally elite Warriors offense. Which team will raise the Larry O'Brien Trophy?

Red Bull’s Sergio Perez won his first race of 2022 by 1.1 seconds after a nailbiting end to the Monaco Grand Prix, with Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen unable to make it past the Mexican – and Charles Leclerc losing out after dropping from pole to P4.

Rain saw the start delayed and, at 1518 local time, drivers completed one lap, heading back to the pits as a red flag was called. Gazebos unfurled and teams waited until 1605 for a rolling race start behind the Safety Car on wet tyres. The Safety Car pulled in for Lap 3 of 77 and Leclerc led away with Sainz, Perez and Verstappen in tow.

The front-runners swapped to intermediates, with Perez coming in first on Lap 17, Leclerc and Verstappen following two laps later, while Sainz skipped straight to hards with a switch on Lap 21, Leclerc following for a Ferrari double-stack. Red Bull followed one lap later and pulled off an overcut with their own double-stack – the order was now Perez, Sainz, Verstappen and a furious Leclerc in P4.
