As we work through this incredible prophecy of Messiah, we will learn that Messiah's lowliness was purposed by God for the redemption of Israel. And as a result of Messiah submitting to the Lord's divine plan which would include his death (vs.8-9), the Lord would resurrect him from the grave (vs. 10-11) and ultimately exalt him (vs.12).

Having spoken on the first stanza (Isaiah 52:13-15) last week, Rabbi Gary speaks on the second stanza (Isaiah 53:1-3) this week. In this prophecy, Isaiah looks forward to the time when Israel as a nation will confess her sin of rejecting Messiah because when He came,. He did not appear as He was expected to appear. Israel expected Messiah to appear in power and glory; however, in actuality, He would appear lowly and in a much less and desired state than Israel anticipated.

The final messianic prophecy of the resurrection of Messiah is found in the fourth Servant Song of the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 52:13-53:12; see also 42:1-4; 49:1-7; 50:1-11).
The prophecy of Isaiah is divided into 5 stanzas of 3 verses each (52:13-15; 53:1-3; 53:4-6; 53:7-9; 53:10-12). In the first and last stanzas God is speaking of the exaltation of the Servant. In the three stanzas between the first and last, the nation of Israel is speaking, confessing her sin of rejecting Messiah when he came precisely because they did not recognize that, in his incarnate state they failed to see him as he truly is, the exalted Servant of the Lord.
