Part 2 of 2:
0. Introduce the structure of our podcast and then … Question of the day! If you were a Messianic super hero - what would your super power be and why?
1. I don’t find my mom’s writing in the latest Kesher unscholarly. It is amazingly detailed and well constructed.
2. There is a hierarchy of value when we study scripture:
Word of God, well translated (preponderance of usage should have priority), in context (audience, author, purpose)
Word of God, maybe well translated (so looking at the less used translations of words and phrases), not in context.
Apocryphal / Talmud / History / Commentary
3. Rabbi as a congregational office is not used in scripture - unless you use it only in it’s most basic meaning as a “teacher.” On the other hand, Elder, Overseer, Deacon etc. are all defined - and they are defined as male.
4. History - just because other people got it wrong, should we?
5. Does it fundamentally “devalue” women to not allow them to be the primary person spiritually accountable before Yeshua for the life of a spiritual community?
6. “Kosher” or “Treif?” We give “hot takes” as to whether or not we would consider this a “kosher” part of Messianic Judaism. For example: Street evangelism (like Jews for Jesus)? Or a female senior leader of a community who is wearing a tallit and a cross necklace on the homepage of their website? Or support for Israel in the war against Hamas and Hezbollah?
