"Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered" (Psa. 32:1). "He who covers his transgressions shall not prosper..." (Prov. 28:13).

The former passage commends the covering of sin; the latter one condemns such. How are these two inspired oracles to be reconciled? The solution to this seeming difficulty is quite simple actually. In the former text, a blessing is pronounced upon him who has sin covered by the blood of Christ and the means of God's forgiveness. Let's look at several ways man seeks to cover his sin.

One of the most popular patriotic anthems of all time, this song is often performed at the funerals of American soldiers and statesmen, presidential nominating conventions and inaugurations, and at Independence Day church services and festivities. Lyricist Julia Ward obviously wrote this hymn to show her faith in God during the Civil War. Let's look at each stanza.

When we think of these two kings--Saul and David--we immediately think of the drastic differences between these men. Saul's failed leadership was monumental. There is much confusion today on the name of Jesus. Even those inside the church have a tendency to drift into a soft, “name it and claim it”, “hocus pocus”, kind of incantation mentality.. How should we think of praying in and representing the Name? How do we biblically get to the point of praying like Jesus did “Not my will, but Thy Will be done?”

When Jesus walked the earth, His Anointing was evident by the miracles He performed and the live He touched. From demons to disease, no malady or evil presence could withstand the power that flowed from Jesus Christ. As a follower of Christ, you have access to the same anointing. Rather than being overly concerned about being relevant, professional, or providing entertainment, our desire should be to have the power and anointing of God in our services.

In the fast-paced, tech-saturated, attention-deficit-disordered culture in which we find ourselves, Christians need to recover the art of a slow meal around a table with people we care about. Sharing tables nourishes us both physically and spiritually. We need a recovery of the spiritual significance of what we eat, where we eat, and with whom we eat with. The dinner table is a place of connection and blessing. Perhaps before we invite people to Jesus or invite them to church, we should invite them to dinner.
