Our keynote speaker for 2015 Missions Weekend is Jimmy Dorrell - co-founder and Executive Director of Mission Waco. He grew up in Conroe, Texas and came to Waco in 1968 to attend Baylor University where he majored in religion and received a BA in 1972. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with an MDiv in 1978 and received his MA in Environmental Studies from Baylor in 1993. In 2001 he received his Doctor of Ministry degree from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia.

Dorrell is pastor of Church Under the Bridge and also teaches classes at Baylor University and Truett Seminary in Waco. He has served on many boards including Teen Pregnancy Prevention Council, Parents as Teachers, Compassion Ministries of Waco, Waco Tribune Herald Board of Contributors, Census 2000 Special Housing Subcommittee Chair and currently the Christian Community Development Association. He has been honored through awards such as Family of the Year Award-Waco Conference of Christians & Jews, Hometown Hero Award, Citizen of the Year-National Association of Social Workers Waco Unit and Baylor University Alumni’s Abner V. McCall Humanitarian Award.

Jimmy has written several books: Trolls and Truth, Plunge2Poverty, and Dead Church Walking.

It’s a sobering reality when you take a stand for Jesus in a world that doesn’t want anything to do with Him - and yet God’s Word calls us to “rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings”. In our place in Acts today, we’re introduced to a special character by the name of Stephen. Listen and hear how Stephen displays confidence in the face of hard times for the sake of Jesus.

At this point in the book of Acts, the church is beginning to grow - so much so that the responsibilities of administrating the love and service to the church family became a burden to those who were preaching and teaching. Thus, today we come to a passage in which the twelve disciples appoint the administrative functions to others in the church who could fulfill those duties.

Today we look closely at the account of Ananias and his wife, Sapphira and the lessons gleaned from God’s Word on how we should give.

Peter and John have just healed a lame man and preached to the Jews assembled there and 5,000 were added to their number that day. However, the rulers and scribes are immediately annoyed and pull Peter and John into their assembly to question.
