Do feelings of happiness, the gratification of the senses, or opportunities to experience recreation, relaxation, and amusement govern your actual decision-making? Perhaps the greatest difficulty or obstacle to the Christian faith and qualitative growth as a person in this “sensate culture” is the problem of pleasure. All too often we are intoxicated by pleasure. Unfortunately, certain pleasures can lead us to places we never thought we would go and change us and those we love we hold dear in the most unexpected ways. Yet the Bible is clear that certain pleasures are designed by God to be enjoyed. In this lecture, we will explore the various facets of pleasure and try to come to terms with the perils, problems, and promises of and longings for pleasure.
