The Perfect Storm
“ But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;
and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea
and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts: 1:8
“But the weather changed abruptly, and a wind of typhoon strength
(called a ‘northeaster’) burst across the island and blew us out to
sea. The sailors couldn’t turn the ship into the wind, so they gave up
and let it run before the gale. We sailed along the sheltered side of a
small island named Clauda, where with great difficulty we hoisted
aboard the lifeboat being towed behind us. Then the sailors bound
ropes around the hull of the ship to strengthen it. They were afraid of
being driven across to the sandbars of Syrtis off the African coast, so
they lowered the sea anchor to slow the ship and were driven before
the wind. The next day, as gale-force winds continued to batter the
ship, the crew began throwing the cargo overboard. The following day
they even took some of the ship’s gear and threw it overboard. The
terrible storm raged for many days, blotting out the sun and the stars,
until at last all hope was gone.” Acts 27:14 – 20
“Men,” he said, “I believe there is trouble ahead if we go
on—shipwreck, loss of cargo, and danger to our lives as well.” Acts
27:10
1. The Positioned Prophet
Paul’s Training
“But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for
Christ” Philippians 3: 7
Paul’s Testimony
“Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times
I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep;
in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils
of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the
city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among
false brethren; in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger
and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness”
1 Corinthians 11: 25 – 28
Paul’s Timing
“The terrible storm raged for many days, blotting out the sun and the
stars, until at last all hope was gone.” Acts 27:20
“Finally, Paul called the crew together and said, ‘Men, you should
have listened to me in the first place and not left Crete. You would
have avoided all this damage and loss. But take courage! None of you
will lose your lives even though the ship will go down. For last night
an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside
me, and he said, “Don’t be afraid, Paul, for you will surely stand trial
before Caesar! What’s more, God in His goodness has granted safety
to everyone sailing with you.” So take courage! For I believe God. It
will be just as He said.’” Acts 27:21 - 25
2. Predetermined Perspective
“For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. For if
we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord.
Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.”
Romans 14: 7 & 8
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ
liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith
of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
Galatians 2:20
“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:20
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I
do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto
those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of
the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:13 & 14
3. A Perfect Peace
2
“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on
You, because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3
“keep” - tisor - guarding or watching over.
“perfect” – Shalom, Shalom or Peace, Peace
shalom - rest, but it is also healing, safety, and security,
“minds” – imaginations
“stayed” - like a mattress covering, it is an overlay.
“And as day was about to dawn, Paul implored them all to take food,
saying, ‘Today is the fourteenth day you have waited and continued
without food, and eaten nothing. Therefore I urge you to take
nourishment, for this is for your survival, since not a hair will fall from
the head of any of you.’ And when he had said these things, he took
bread and gave thanks to God in the presence of them all; and when
he had broken it he began to eat.” Acts 27:33
YOU FEED THEM!
