Welcome back to The New Abnormal. We are continuing our series called Changing Our Thinking by looking at systems.

So often in American history we talk about the individuals need to pull one's self up by the bootstraps and chart a path into success and opportunity. But there are systems within our society that have hindered and out-right kept Black, Indigenous, People of Color from those opportunities. 

Similarly, the Bible is often talked about as an invitation into a personal relationship with Jesus. And for good reason. But the Bible is not simply a personal invitation, it is also about the way humans engage in the development and creation of culture and society. Looking into the books of Leviticus and Deuteronomy will help us see how God expects people to participate in systems of justice and shalom. And Jesus echoes this desire of God in his own announcement onto the scene!

Justice and equity will never be experienced unless we not only dismantle our own behavior, but the systems that perpetuate the very inequities that we see.

This is part 2 of our Changing Our Thinking series where we are looking at the patterns of this world and asking ourselves and the Spirit where renewal of our minds may need to happen. In order to partner with God in the renewal, reconciliation, restoration, and resurrection of all things, the putting to rights of all the wrongs, and seeing justice flow like a river, we need to go back to our foundational stories. How do those stories impact the story we are now living and the future we are crafting?
