All Saints Day often reminds us of the sadness, loss and mourning we experience when a loved one dies. While this is considered a normal response to death, there is a significant difference in the type of grief evidenced at funerals.
In our text, Paul reminds us that mixed in with our sadness is our Christian hope.
He speaks of a significant difference in grieving when he writes in the words of our text, "Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope" (v 13). In other words, unlike the people of the world, believers in Christ, by contrast, grieve with hope
