We continue our midweek Lenten series of exploring what took place on the three days between Palm Sunday and Maundy Thursday.
One way to process the days of Lent is by asking questions. On Tuesday of Holy Week we are confronted with two very significant questions, one that a scribe asks Jesus and another that Jesus asks the crowds in the temple area.
Notice how Jesus' answer to the scribe sets up His question to us. When asked, "Which commandment is the most important of all?" (Mark 11:28), Jesus responds, "Love the LORD your God" and "your neighbor as yourself!" Jesus follows with one of His own, "How is it that the teachers of the law say that the Christ is the son of David?" (Mark 12:35) when David said, "The LORD says to my Lord: "Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet" (Psalm 110:1).
Who can "Love the LORD your God" and "your neighbor as yourself," only David's son and David's Lord who is about to do just that three days after a couple of Lent Questions are asked and answered.
