What would your life be like if you took an adult gap year? Are there things you’d like to say no to? How can you be the best father and bring yourself joy?
“Where do I find my self-worth?” A common question asked when meeting someone new is, “What do you do?” For decades workers were able to find their answer and self-worth in how and to whom they sold their labor. However, it seems that through the Great Resignation, the mindset of finding one's self-worth through a job is going the way of the typewriter or the fax machine in the office.
Data is showing that the Great Resignation is less about money and more about lifestyle choices and asking for respect by workers. 57% of those surveyed in a February 2022 Pew Research Center poll cited they “felt disrespected at work” for the reasoning behind their resignation. In addition, a MIT Sloan Management Review article that analyzed one million Glassdoor reviews stated that “Toxic Culture” - in particular feeling disrespected in the workplace - was “ten times more important than compensation in predicting turnover.”
Like many others, Roger has found that intentionally living out his life through the completion of items on my bucket list brings him the self-worth he was seeking that a job no longer fulfills. Here are three benefits (plus two bonus benefits) to self-worth that one can find through crossing items off a bucket list:
You decide what brings you joy
You feel pride through accomplishments you chose
You build confidence having your own stories to share
Bonus Benefits
You become motivated and excited about life
You get outside of your bubble
Roger is a member of the Great Resignation. In October of 2021, after a heart attack and thirty plus years in the youth development/teaching field, he quit his position to take an “Adult Gap Year.” During this time he traveled and lived around the globe, crossing items off his bucket list and encouraged others to do the same. During this time he also started a podcast called The Crossing It Off Podcast, where he interviews individuals living with intention through items they have crossed off their lists that have experienced these benefits as well.

Today's guest found a way to educate himself by doing what he wanted to do, through books, writing, podcasting, becoming an expert on other people's work, and starting a discussion around it. That's the beauty today in creating your own show! James Quandahl says take steps towards the things that interest you naturally! Better Call Daddy: The Safe Space For Controversy.
After almost two decades James Quandahl left his successful retail career behind to build businesses and pursue his passion of learning something new each day and sharing it with others. James reads at least one book each week and devours the podcasts, blogs, magazines, and presentations from leaders in business & marketing, self-help, health & wellness, and fiction and poetry.
On James’s podcast The James Quandahl Show he interviews the world’s experts to uncover how you can live your life to the fullest, be present and connect deeply with others, and build the life of your dreams.
In 2015 and 2016 James raised over $6,000 to provide safe access to clean drinking water for 125 children by running two marathons on team World Vision. In 2015 James received a private invitation to visit NASA’s Space Launch Complex at California’s Vandenberg Air Force Base. There is a financial ROI (return on investment) to reading books! Our human experiences are not that unique there is a book for every problem you are facing. You can learn from others who have figured out their health, wealth, finances, and happiness! Books help us realize what’s possible! Who do you want to be by the end of this year? Who do you look up to? Read a book about someone you admire!

What’s the meaning of a name? What happened to you? We are a sum of our life's experiences, and it's up to us to turn them into positive experiences. It’s not so easy to let go of trauma when it lives inside your soul! Parents from opposite sides of the track, abuse, and running away from the farm, sometimes life can feel like a cruel joke. Samantha Hart felt like the blind pony she raised. She says there are a lot of blind ponies out there.
Today I’m talking to a risk-taker, a farm girl, and an incredible mommy! She says as hard as it is talking about generational trauma, she's glad she did. Better Call Daddy: The Safe Space for Controversy.
Samantha Hart's career has spanned music, film, and advertising, earning her a reputation as an award-winning Creative Director. Her creative marketing campaigns brought prominence and Academy Awards to films such as Fargo, Dead Man Walking, and Boys Don't Cry while earning cult status for independent features, Dazed and Confused, Four Weddings and A Funeral, and Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
