A lot of business owners avoid using direct outreach to drive sales because they think it’s going to be too complicated or too uncomfortable. But if it makes sense for your business model and you can get past any mindset hurdles you have around this marketing method, you may discover that it can really work for your business. My guest Meg Tilton had this experience in her business recently when she decided to experiment with using direct outreach to create leads for her new group coaching program. In this episode, we talk about why she decided to experiment with direct outreach to create leads, how we knew it was a good path for lead generation and how she kept the strategy simple. We’ll also talk about why mindset work was the key to making this strategy successful and how this approach benefited Meg’s business in a way that was about so much more than sales.

It’s easy to see why business owners often adopt a “more is better” mentality with everything from their audience to their offers to their marketing. But the truth is that niching down is often the better growth strategy and, in this episode, business and lifestyle designer Marie Poulin shares why. Marie joins me to talk about how and why she decided to niche down and become known as the go-to person for the workplace software Notion. We talk about how she knew that niching down was the right experiment to try, why she offered her new course, Notion Mastery, as a beta version and why niching down allowed her to dramatically increase her revenue, invest in her team and align her business with work she loves.

It often seems like the easiest way to grow your business is to create a new offer for your existing audience. But if you pay attention to the clues and are open to other opportunities, you may find that the simplest way to grow is actually to create an offer for a new audience. Social media strategist Andréa Jones discovered this last year when she saw an opportunity to grow her business by launching a mentorship program. In this episode, we talk about why she decided to try growing her income and impact through this particular offer and also about how she was able to do it while simultaneously running her social media agency.

So often the conversation around streamlining your business focuses on topics like systems and service design and delegating. And while all of those things are important and all of them are things I believe in, the truth is that streamlining your business has as much to do with learning the soft skills as it does implementing any single strategy. In this episode, I’m highlighting three soft skills that have helped me run and grow my business with more intention and ease this year - including one related to time management that may surprise you.

The idea of slowing down your business to scale up feels at odds with the philosophy that business owners should always be pursuing growth. But in order to pursue growth in a sustainable, life-giving way, sometimes you have to slow down so you can build a stronger foundation in your business first. In this episode, Keila Hill-Trawick of Little Fish Accounting joins me to talk about her experience slowing down to scale up and about the steps we took to help her grow in a more easeful way. We talk about how she knew it was time to slow down, how we built systems and processes that allowed her to build a better business and about why she’s so clear that she can grow well with a small team.

In this episode, I’m sharing how I pursued growth in my business by launching a new offer and why I decided to shut that service down 5 months later even though it was profitable and successful. I’ll talk about how I discovered it wasn’t the right growth path for me, what I realized growth needed to look like in my business and the question I now ask myself to see if an opportunity to grow is really aligned with the things I want most in business and life.
