Better Than You episodes

  • Episode 14 | “Poetic Justice”
Alex, Brian, Joe and Ant sit down to reflect on the life and works of the late John Singleton. The famed Oscar nominated filmmaker was finally taken off of life support after suffering a massive stroke a week earlier.
In addition to leaving behind his loved ones, Singleton also left us with a filmography loaded with thoughtful stories about Black people that were just as entertaining as they were thought provoking and rooted in reality.
Rest in Paradise, John Singleton and thank you.
The guys also touched on the Mueller Report, Meek Mill’s overbearing judge, Game of Thrones and a little sports talk; focusing on the recent NFL Draft and the NBA Playoffs.
Hope everyone enjoys the episode and thanks for listening!

  • Episode 13 | “The Four Horsemen”
Alex, Brian, Joe and Ant sit down to discuss a few current events including the full release of the Mueller Report and the terrorism in Sri Lanka.
During the podcast, Alex introduced the recent conviction of Chanel Lewis, a man found guilty of raping and strangling a young female jogger to death, who worked with autistic children.
Alex and Brian took issue with the police tactics used in bringing this rapist/killer to justice. Although no one was falsely accused or detained, many African Americans males were forced to give DNA samples; which might’ve been a violation of their civil rights. All of this led to a heated debate over whether the ends justify the means when seeking justice.
After the heated debate, the guys went through the rest of their topics spanning from Beyoncé’s Homecoming documentary to Kim Kardashian’s quest to become a lawyer.
They also covered a few sports topics and salute OutKast and Nas on their classic debut albums “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik” and “Illmatic” turning 25 years old.

  • Episode 12 | “Ups & Downs”
Alex, Brian, Joe and Ant sit down to discuss some current events spanning from the beautiful memorial service for Nipsey Hussle to Tiger’s triumphant return to greatness after winning the Masters.
This episode starts out on a somber note from reflecting on Nipsey’s passing one last time, their thoughts on the fire at Notre Dame cathedral, and how they feel about the Medical Aid in Dying for Terminally Ill Act that will legalize assisted suicide to the terminally ill in the State of New Jersey.
After touching on Donald Trump’s despicable propaganda that has caused a massive increase in death threats for our beloved Congresswoman Omar, the tone of this episode becomes a lot more cheerful.
The guys send some love to those working on helping the homeless secure housing and much needed mental health care. They discuss the Game of Thrones mania and reminisce on their favorite television shows of all time. They also give their hilarious takes on Wendy Williams divorcing her no good husband Kelvin.
They close out with sports updates including Tiger’s big win, Russell Wilson’s new contract, the NBA playoffs and the state of the Lakers franchise.
Hope everyone enjoys the episode and thanks for listening!

Alex, Brian, Joe and Ant sit down to discuss a vast array of topics from Trump cleaning house to take an even harder stance against immigrants to the State of Georgia inching closer to passing legislation that could deem the monumental Rowe v. Wade decision irrelevant.
Speaking of the name Wade, the guys also attempt to discuss the coming out party NBA Star, Dwyane Wade’s son Zion had at a pride parade with Gabrielle Union and friends. We salute the young king’s bravery as he shares this piece of his life with the world. Live out and proud, young king.
Other NBA related topics like the real time resignation of Magic Johnson from the Lakers organization and Kyle Korver’s thoughtful editorial outlining his thoughts on White Privilege and racism in America were also hot topics during this episode.
Beyoncé’s new deal with Adidas as well as Kodak Black’s courtship of the Late Nipsey Hussle’s fiancée, Lauren London were also discussed.
We’d also like to give a special shoutout to comedian Donnell Rawlings for clapping back at Joe for his disparaging remarks about the Chappelle’s Show legacy.
The guys were all over the place this podcast, but dammit they had fun.
Hope everyone enjoys the episode and thanks for listening!

Alex, Brian, Joe and Ant sit down to discuss the untimely passing of one of our favorite figures in hip-hop today, Nipsey Hussle. Nipsey was gunned down on March 31, 2019 outside of a clothing store he owned in the neighborhood he grew up in.
In fact, Nipsey owned numerous properties in his neighborhood, which he used to provide jobs and services for the people in his community. In addition to commercial properties, Nipsey had science and technology initiatives in place that were already bearing fruit. Nipsey was empowering his people in numerous ways
As far as music goes, Nipsey was coming off of the biggest year of his rap career with his debut studio album being nominated for Best Rap Album at the Grammys. The whole industry, as well as millions of fans and admirers are mourning his passing.
We’ll all miss the catchy and thoughtful hip hop music he was making, but even more so the keen business acumen, elder-level wisdom and commitment to his community that the 33 year old Nipsey Hussle had.
Rest easy, King! You are gone, but will never be forgotten. You inspired so many.
Although we had heavy hearts entering this episode, Brian’s invited guest, Marcia brightened the podcast with her presence. Please excuse some technical difficulties we had recording this episode. We assure you that you’ll still fully enjoy the free flowing conversation that the five of us had.
In addition to Nipsey talk, we touched on accusations thrown at Joe Biden and Kristaps Porzingis, NCAA Tournament talk, and a lot of hip hop and R&B talk with some hilarious and controversial hot takes.
Thanks Marcia for joining us. Look forward to having you back soon.
