As the season continues to wind down with just three games to go there is still plenty to decide when it comes to who is getting relegated and who will be heading to Europe next season. Atletico Madrid has once again overtaken Real Madrid for 2nd place and will now travel to face an Espanyol side desperate for points. After a run of bad form, Real Valladolid now finds themselves in the relegation zone with 1st-place Barcelona coming to town. Real Sociedad will continue their attempt to hold off Villarreal for the 4th and final Champions League position as they host Almeria. After an unsatisfying draw last week, Getafe must now travel to face Real Betis as they have no room for error being tied on points to be relegated. We are sure to be in for a few surprising results this week as this matchday will take place midweek with teams being on little rest.

As matchday 33 arrives there is no doubt that this is the week we’ve been waiting for, with Bayern having a major test as they face Leipzig in a must win game to hold on to 1st place at the top of the league. Dortmund will travel to face Augsburg in hopes of picking up 3 points to take back 1st place. Freiburg will host Wolfsburg in a battle of two teams in European positions having great seasons. Schalke will look to quickly bounce back after their loss to Bayern as they host Frankfurt who have won two of their last three games. With just two games to try and escape the relegation zone Stuttgart will travel to Mainz in hopes of claiming three points.

After another week of sub par results, two teams find themselves pitted against each other as they both sit just 1 point above the relegation zone, as Cadiz will host Real Valladolid to kickoff matchday 35. After dropping points and allowing Villarreal to crawl back into the Champions League race, Real Sociedad must now travel to Camp Nou to face Barcelona. Getafe has their game of the season as they host Elche. A victory here would move them out of the relegation zone. After slowly sneaking back into the Champions league race, Villarreal will attempt to claim another 3 points as they go on the road to take on Girona. Osasuna will have the tough task of going away to face Atletico Madrid, who are more than likely to come out firing after a disappointing loss to say the least against last place Elche.

With just three matchdays left in the season, the top four has finally started to take its shape as Milan is now four points out with Roma being six points out. The relegation battle has taken an interesting twist as Lecce has put themselves in a bad spot where they are only 2 points above 18th and 19th place. They will now play Spezia who is their direct competition to escape relegation in a game that figures to give the upper hand to the winner in terms of playing another season in Serie A. Atalanta will host Verona with both teams being desperate for points for different reasons with Atalanta looking to move back into a European position and Verona trying to jump back out of relegation. After booking their spot in the Champions League final Inter will look to put a stamp on their Champions League position for next season in their next game when they face an on-the-beach Napoli side who has already clinched the Serie A crown.

As we are one game closer to the end of the season we have all but officially crowned a champion as Man City look set to repeat as they won while Arsenal took another step back losing to Brighton. The first leg of the Champions League Semifinal saw a few surprises in both games. Real Madrid was able to jump out to a lead against Manchester City but failed to hold it as the Citizens were able to equalize before setting up to return home deadlocked 1-1. It didn’t come until the 2nd half but the goal put City firmly in place to advance on their home soil.  Inter jumped on Milan early and often in the 1st leg of their matchup as they flew out to a 2-0 lead a score that wouldn’t change as no goals were scored after the 11th minute which Milan was somewhat fortunate not to allow anymore. Milan hopes to benefit from the return of their star Rafael Leao, a player they did not have for the last leg.

Matchday 34 provided a little more clarity on the remaining games for the current Serie A season. Napoli has officially clinched the title, placing 6,7 now trails the top four by 5 points. After an important victory, Lazio will try to take one step closer to clinching a Champions League position against an out of form Lecce side. Atalanta must look for all 3 points and bounce back as they travel to face Salernitana. After their Champions League match Inter will host Sassuolo as they also try and secure a finish inside the top four. Milan will face fellow Serie A side Inter in the Champions League Semifinals followed by traveling to Spezia 3 days later where they must claim all 3 points as they can’t afford to drop any more points in the league.
