Supernatural adventure podcast Between the Devil introduces its hero properly — and she is exactly who you want in charge of a cursed ship.

Francisco finds Sammy in the cargo hold. He is furious. His brother Ruben is delighted. Captain Eckhardt, who is drunk, is mostly confused about whether he has met her before. Sammy, for her part, is entirely unrepentant — she left a note for her mother, she brought her sword, and she has read enough adventure stories to know that this is exactly the kind of voyage she was meant to be on. The only question is whether the crew agrees.

Supernatural adventure podcast Between the Devil sets sail — and the cursed ship begins to reveal its secrets.

The Rosalyn is at sea and the voyage is already strange. Captain Eckhardt has inspected the ship properly for the first time and his report is not reassuring: South American carvings, iron bars in the cargo hold that suggest a prison ship, symbols unlike anything he has seen, and that figurehead — the octopus — staring out from the prow at the open ocean. Francisco and his friend Ruben are eating breakfast and pretending none of this is a problem. Meanwhile, something below deck has begun to make a sound.

Supernatural adventure podcast Between the Devil begins with the worst purchase Francisco has ever made — and the daughter he has no idea is aboard.

Francisco is a merchant who has just bought a ship. It was cheap, which should have been the first warning. The figurehead is an octopus. The hull has South American carvings and gaps plugged with pages from the Bible. The captain is a former Royal Navy officer who drinks from morning to night. And somewhere in the cargo hold, Francisco's eleven-year-old daughter Sammy has made herself a very comfortable hiding spot.

She left a note for her mother. She brought her sword. She has absolutely no regrets.
