Armagnac is generally considered to be one of France’s great brandies, with its fame and popularity only eclipsed by Cognac. This specific type of brandy is produced in the Armagnac region in southwestern France, approximately 100 miles southeast of Bordeaux. There are three different appellations for Armagnac: Bas-Armagnac (the top Armagnac producing region), Ténareze, and Haut-Armagnac (which produces the lightest Armagnacs).

Napa Valley is the most famous and iconic winemaking region in California, as

well as one of the most celebrated wine regions in the world. The region is known

primarily for its Cabernet Sauvignon wines, which accounts for nearly 60 percent

of the region’s total wine production. Four other grape varietals - Chardonnay,

Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir – are also popular in Napa Valley.

The Navarra wine region, located in northern Spain, has traditionally been known for its

rosado (rose) wines made from grape varietals such as Garnacha. The region, despite

its size, contains just a single denomination de Origen (DO): the Navarra DO. This DO

extends southward of the administrative capital of Pamplona.

Hawke’s Bay is the second-largest wine producing region in New Zealand,

trailing only Marlborough in terms of overall production. Hawke’s Bay is also the

oldest wine producing region in the nation, with a history of winemaking dating

back to the arrival of Marist missionaries in 1851.

Rioja, located in northern Spain, is the most famous winemaking region in the

country. It is particularly known for its oak barrel aging process, which ensures

that every wine produced has notes of berries, coconut, vanilla or sweet spices.

The two most popular grape varietals by far in Rioja are Tempranillo and

Garnacha.

Lisboa is a winemaking region located along Portugal’s Atlantic coastline. Most

prominently, it is the home to the nation’s capital, Lisbon. The best vineyards are

located north and west of Lisbon, and are divided into 9 different sub-zones, of

which the most famous are Alenquer and Bucelas.

Madeira is one of the most historic and famous winemaking regions of Portugal –

but it is located 600 miles away from the capital Lisbon and 450 miles away from

the North African coast. In short, it’s a rugged, mountainous archipelago that is

just about as remote as you can find in the world, and yet by a twist of history, it

has given its name to one of the most famous fortified wines in the world:

Madeira.

The Tejo wine region (formerly known as Ribatejo until 2009) is located in central

Portugal, just inland from the famous city of Lisbon. Unlike other winemaking

regions of Portugal, Tejo is completely landlocked, which is why the region has

been identified for so long with the Tejo River, which passes through it,

connecting Lisbon to Madrid.

The Willamette Valley is a 150-mile long valley in Oregon that includes more

than 500 wineries. The region connects the three most important cities in the

state – Portland, Eugene and Salem – as part of a burgeoning wine industry that

first burst on the scene in the early 1980s for its high-quality Pinot Noir wines.
