In 1913, 26 year old Arthur Momand published a comic strip that went on to be syndicated for the next 25 years. The Comic Strip was based on his experiences trying to live in affluent Nassau County, Long Island NY. The comic strip was entitled “Keeping up with the Joneses.” That phrase is still commonly used today when striving to match your neighbours in spending and social standing. While we may smile at this phrase, at its heart, the phrase describes covetousness — a condition so deadly that God’s Ten Commandments to prohibit it. Today’s lesson will discuss that important topic.
