This document outlines a comprehensive online questionnaire study involving 315 participants, both autistic and non-autistic, designed to test the Sensory Sensitivity Mental Health Distractibility (S2MHD) model.
The research aimed to understand how sensory sensitivity leads to anxiety and fatigue, ultimately impacting attention and focus in autistic individuals.
Key findings confirmed higher sensory sensitivity, anxiety, and fatigue in autistic participants, validating the S2MHD model's pathways, particularly how anxiety and fatigue mediate the link between sensory input and distractibility.
The study also revealed increasing challenges with age for autistic adults and a strong desire for technological solutions to support sensory and attention needs, advocating for personalized, environment-focused accommodations rather than individual "coping" strategies.
