Womanhood is Complicated! Living in a misogynistic world is tough yet something we’ve all come accustomed to navigating. But, enough is enough. We’re pushing for changing and demanding we are heard and respected.
Segment 1: What’s Happening Now
Covering the latest with the Supreme Court hearing for Brett Kavanaugh and the numerous sexual assault complaints against him that have surfaced, one most notably from Dr Christine Blasey Ford. Discussing Dr Ford’s and Kavanaugh’s hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Also discussing the baddest woman in tennis, Serena Williams and her words at the U.S. Open that reminded us that we have a voice.
Segment 2: Self-Care
With all of the talk of sexual assault, it’s time we pull back and take some time to take care of ourselves. Shut off the news, social media, and take care of you, especially sexual assault survivors. The moment we are in now can be triggering so I want to talk about the great need for self care now more than ever.
Segment 3: Black Excellence
Times up! Time to focus on the founder of the #MeToo movement, Tarana Burke. A woman on a mission to shed light on sexual assault in our society. Her work since 2006 has been paramount and her continued efforts in the movement is amazing.

Owning Your Life is Complicated for sure and requires that you take stock of how you’re allowing yourself to be seen by the world. Are you showing up fully of yourself and allowing your gifts and talents to shine or are you shrinking?
Segment 1: What’s Happening Now
Beyonce took over Vogue and we stan! Beyonce gave all of the life in her Vogue takeover complete with a writeup that she penned herself shunning the need for an interview. She shared her platform by allowing up-and-coming photographer, Tyler Mitchell to shoot her giving way for him to be the first African American to shoot the cover and the youngest person to shoot the cover. She opened up about her pregnancy and issues she faced around childbirth shedding a light on the racial inequality of medicine in America. Beyonce talked about her acceptance of her post-baby body and what it means to her to live comfortably with her new curves. So many nuggets. Make sure you check it out here or grab the latest copy of Vogue on newstands now!
Segment 2: Self-Care
We all have to stop shrinking! Sometimes we shrink to make others comfortable in our presence and that is no good. It’s time we take ownership of ourselves and show up fully to allow others to truly experience the greatness in each of us. 3 quick no-brainer steps to get back into yourself and ditch that shrinking mentality.
Segment 3: Black Excellence
How have we not spotlighted Oprah yet? If we have, we forgot. Oh well, she’s worth it. Yep, covering the queen of media in this episode hopefully to inspire you to be your best self and manifest all that is within you.

Resetting is Complicated for sure but is ever needed when you’re journeying through life. The road to destiny is bumpy at times and sometimes we find ourselves lulling in a space of complacency instead of moving forward at the level we should be operating at, so let’s take this July to reset!
Segment 1: What’s Happening Now
We still have kids detained in cages and tent cities here in America. Refugee children are representing themselves in U.S. immigration courts. The government has no idea what parent goes with what child and are doing DNA tests now to fulfill a court-order of re-uniting parents with children (because we needed a lawsuit to ensure they’d do it in a timely manner *slow blink*). Yes, I’m still talking about the refugee crisis and detained kids, I won’t stop until we change course and treat people with the basic human decency that their humanity deserves. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shocked the establishment in a NY primary where she beat incumbent Representative Joe Crowley landing herself a place as the Democratic candidate for his U.S. House seat. Gone, girl! Make sure y’all vote and check to make sure you’re registered because they can purge voter rolls… Oh and Essence Fest is happening!
Segment 2: Self-Care
It’s time to RESET! I launched my own personal 22-Day Reset on July 3rd and I realized, “hey, why wouldn’t some of my BCPod listeners wouldn’t want to join in?” So, join me! You can start yours whenever you like, but nothing like the present right? I’m offering 6 focus areas as we journey on this reset to get to where we should be.
Segment 3: Black Excellence
In this episode, I want to spotlight a wonderful woman in the Venture Capitalist industry who is making waves by investing in underrepresented communities, Arlan Hamilton, CEO and founding partner of Backstage Capital. Her and her team are doing something so many aren’t doing right now, investing in women, people of color, and people in the LGBTQ community. She recently announced a new $36M fund her team has launched that will be used to solely invest in black women startups and entrepreneurs. She’s truly a woman who is pulling in others who are ready to take their seat at the table. Follow Arlan Hamilton on Twitter @ArlanWasHere and check out her company, Backstage Capital (especially if you’re pitching!).

Immigration is complicated, racist policies are not. It’s not an easy thing for any nation to work through when it comes to taking care of the citizens and those seeking a better life. The policies around it can be difficult to build out, however treating people as humans is not complicated at all. It requires basic decency and respect for all human life and apparently that is complicated for this current administration.
Segment 1: What’s Happening Now
It’s time to talk about the history of othering in America and how we’re seeing it play it now at the souther border. Getting to the root of the racist policies of America throughout history and that chose to ignore the basic humanity of different groups of people on this episode. A lot has been happening with family separation, childhood detention, now family detention, and deportation of parents without children. A lot of horrible things happening and it’s time to get honest about the discussion.
Fundraiser Page for Raices
Segment 2: Self-Care
Self education is core to self-care. It’s time to take ownership of your own education and learning about what’s happening here in America, getting your news from reputable sources, learning American history, and World history. An educated electorate is a powerful electorate. An educated person is a powerful person. We are taught the basics of our own history and are given the snapshots of current events in our media, so it’s important that we go deeper and learn more on our own. Educating oneself is an important part of self-care because we can be more thoughtful in our own ideals and actions.
Segment 3: Black Excellence
Black Excellence is human excellence in this episode! I’m spotlighting the nameless people who are doing the work at the southern border, sounding the alarm, amplifying the message on social media and in main stream media, and donating their time and money for the basic humanity of people seeking help from America who are being treated as lesser than by our administration. Seeing the many people fighting around the clock reminds us that human excellence is all around us, because it is within each of us.

Life is complicated but we can move through it if we know that we have people who surround us that love us and love on others. Be a light.
Segment 1: What’s Happening Now
I’ve been on break for a month! So, this is my recap on what happened the past month from This is America to the Trump Administration showing us just what the America they want looks like with immigration. Horrible all around, so I’m sharing my thoughts.
Segment 2: Self-Care
We have been inundated by suicides this last week. It’s time to talk about truly being mindful of self and others and ensuring we are there for them and reaching out when we’re not ourselves. LIfe is a precious gift that gets really hard at times, know that we still deserve to live it to the fullest. If you’re experiencing thoughts of suicide, please reach out to someone you love and trust or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. Find a good therapist and check out a great podcast, Therapy for Black Girls, wherever you get your podcasts. There are always such wonderful topics that could be beneficial. Check on those strong friends, quiet friends, friends you know have been going through. Be there for them if it isn’t you that is feeling the pressure. Let’s spread love and be the light.
Segment 3: Black Excellence
It’s Pride Month and as an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community, I wanted to make sure I took time to highlight some gamechangers out there. With all of the recent murders that have been happening against transgendered women, I would be remiss not to first choose one of the most vocal transgender activist to discuss on the show, Janet Mock. She’s a gamechanger for sure!

Existing while Black is Complicated! Seriously, it shouldn’t be but it is and it is painfully unfortunate.
Segment 1: What’s Happening Now
There has been way too much happening in the past couple of weeks. Way too much! But, here we are. So, I’m taking the opportunity to hit on some of the highlights that really shed a light on how existing while black is criminalized and attacked. I’m talking about the incident at Starbucks that resulted in the arrest of 2 black men, the murder of 4 black people at a Waffle House by a white supremacist, the arrest of a young woman at a Waffle House in Alabama, and the recent comments by Kanye on Twitter. So much to unpack. Too much to unpack.
Segment 2: Self-Care
Because life these past couple of weeks have been insane (and I didn’t even tough on everything that went down!), I’m calling for a social media detox for all of us. We gotta sage our phones and tablets, ya’ll. I’m giving you 4 tips (and a bonus) on taking a vacation from social media and reconnecting with your life. Trust me, it’s one of the highest forms of self-care and you deserve it.
Segment 3: Black Excellence
With the opening of the memorial on America lynchings in Alabama this week, I want to spotlight an incredible woman who did the work when it wasn’t popular and documented lynchings across America. Yep, I’m talking about Ida B Wells-Barnett. Quick history lesson and moment to honor a true icon.

Breaking out of the Box is Complicated! It’s time we smash boxes, burn labels, and embrace our truest selves. It’s beyond time, beautiful people.
Segment 1: What’s Happening Now
Y’all Drake dropped Nice For What just for me. I’m certain of it. Well, for you, too my sistas. And can we say it was glorious with the hot video to match featuring all of our faves from Tracee Ellis Ross to Issa Rae, Letitia Wright to Misty Copeland...it was serious! So many beautiful ladies being unapologetically free and I stan! Celebrating Cardi B on her new album and her baby announcement. Get it, girl! Couldn’t record without mentioning the epic dragging of Killer Mike by one of my faves, Joy Reid of MSNBC’s AMJoy. Oh and of course, the latest in the dumpster fire that is the Trump Administration. You don’t want to miss this sizzling hot segment.
Segment 2: Self-Care
Break out of the box! We gotta do it. We’ve been put in boxes by others and ourselves. Taken on labels that aren’t ours. Allowed limiting thinking or actions to keep us from being our truest selves and ultimately disrupting our journey. I’m giving you 4 steps to breaking out of the box. You want to make sure you have your pen and paper ready because we’re digging deep and getting to the core so we can get on our destiny-track.
Segment 3: Black Excellence
It’s National Poetry Month! So, of course, I’m using this time to spotlight my all-time favorite poet Maya Angelou. It’s not a game. She’s the GOAT and we must always honor her spirit, light, and work she shared with us when she was on this earth. Nothing but love! Oh and did I mention I’m reciting my favorite poem of hers, you gotta listen to find out which one it is.

Doing the Work is Complicated FOR SURE! But, it’s time. It’s time for each of us to do the work in our purpose and watch the world be transformed for the better. Segment 1: What’s Happening Now I saw A Wrinkle In Time opening weekend so giving my brief thoughts on it and why you should definitely see it! Shedding some light on people who have been making a difference and fighting back against what has become the norm for so many, gun violence, in my coverage of the March For Our Lives event. You gotta hear the speech from 11 year old, Naomi Wadler. I am also spotlighting the assassination of Brazilian Councillor, Marielle Franco, who fought tirelessly to upend oppression and institutionalized racism and state-sanctioned violence. Segment 2: Self-Care In the last episode, I talked about finding your purpose. Now, it’s time to do the work, purposeful work. So, I’m giving your 4 Steps to Impact of working in your purpose and transforming the world. Segment 3: Black Excellence Serena Williams. GOAT. We all know how great she is on the court, so I want to talk about how she’s taking her purpose further and doing the work off the court to help others. Heyyyy!!! In this episode we’re covering a few good topics (as usual!). Check it out. In Segment 1: What’s Happening Now the talk is on Black Panther shattering the myth that a black cast can’t make money at the box office as it nears the $1 billion dollar mark in Week 3. Get it, fellow Wakandans! Also, covering the gun reform debate and the work of the MSD High students as they take on the NRA and politicians. Also, doing a quick rundown of the move by South African president, Cyril Ramaphosa, to redistribute land from white farmers to black farmers in an attempt to right the wrongs of colonization. Watch that space! In Segment 2: Self Care it’s time to find out who we are, why we are, and step fully into ourselves and our purpose. Oh yeah, this is a deep one! There are 4 questions we need to answer, so grab your notebook for this one: Who am I? Why am I? Am I doing anything right now related to ‘why I am’ that speaks to ‘who I am’? What does it look like for me to begin to actualize my full self in life and in my purpose? This is important work so get ready for the personal shift! In Segment 3: Black Excellence I am spotlighting a truly phenomenal woman who has tapped into her purpose and doing what she was meant to do, April Reign (@ReignofApril on Twitter). From #OscarsSoWhite to #ReignyDayJobs and now her new platform Akuarel, April is doing major things in the fight for inclusion. Follow her on Twitter!
