You know the routine. You’re sitting quietly in the pew as the sermon wraps up and suddenly you feel your stomach start to rumble. “Did I forget to eat breakfast?” you think to yourself, “I could really go for a snack.” Then, as if by divine intervention, the pastor stands up and invites everyone to come forward and join in a feast! But when you get to the front of the line all your given is a bite of bread and a sip of wine. Not exactly the edible satisfaction you were hoping for. And yet, week after week, we come back to this same meal that we have come to call “Communion.”
This week the Beyond Sunday team is taking you through the ins and outs of this strange practice of eating in the middle of worship. Why do we do it? What does it mean for us and people of faith? Pull out a loaf of bread and grab a glass of wine (or grape juice!) as we tackle what may well be the most important thing we do as the Church: Communion.
