Everywhere we turn we are hearing more and more about Covid-19 ( the Corona Virus). But what is a Christian suppose to do in the face of danger and illness? It turns out that about 500 years ago Martin Luther had a few words of wisdom for the people of his region in Germany as they faced a resurgence of the plague. The Beyond Sunday Team is taking up this issue and challenging ourselves to think seriously about how we want to respond in times of crisis.

We’re coming back to finish our conversation about sabbath! What does God mean when we are commanded to “keep the sabbath holy?” Are we just supposed to sit and stare at a wall? Can we push an elevator button? We’ll explore all these questions and more as we try to capture a faith-filled understanding of sabbath.
We’re also saying goodbye to co-host Katie Phillips in the coming week so send your favorite Katie moments (narwhals and all!) in to [email protected].

Recently the Texas Diocese of the Episcopal Church has authorized money to be paid as reparations for the church’s historical role in slavery in the United States. This week on Beyond Sunday we’re asking how the modern church should respond to historical sins and what impact that should have on our individual and corporate faith. We know that this is a difficult topic for many and feel as though we are intentionally creating division. The hope of the Beyond Sunday team is that we can use this conversation as a launching point to talk about important issues of our time regardless of what we might believe. Send us your thoughts and comments at [email protected].

Recently, religious and political leaders gathered in Washington D.C. for the National Prayer Breakfast. At this event there were two very different perspectives presented on how we treat those who we consider (or who openly claim to be) our enemies. This week the Beyond Sunday Team is joining the fray to ask the question as old as humanity itself, “How do we treat people who wish to do us harm?” We hope you’ll join the conversation on our Facebook page and let us know what it means for you to “love you enemies.”
