(14:10) Nicole says that our words are a way to bring God into the world. The hosts discuss how we reveal God by being created in his image, and Nicole says it is a violation of humility to deny your own worth and God’s image in yourself.

(17:00) Rakhi ties the discussion back to a story of St. Peter and how it tells us that our very being should be “eyewitnesses of His majesty.” Nicole says this relates to how the Eucharist allows us to literally bring Jesus into our bodies and out into the world.

(19:10) The hosts discuss how challenging it is to be vigilant of what media and content we are taking in and how that impacts how we are rooted to Christ and affirming the dignity of others.

  • Stewardship as a Family

On this episode, Nicole and Rakhi discuss the meaning of stewardship, including giving of our “time, talents, and treasure” – and beyond. They share the importance of offering what we have to support the mission of the Church and how to involve the whole family in being good stewards.

(2:00) The hosts open the show by discussing their unusual talents.

(3:12) Rakhi says that this episode explores what it means to make an offering of ourselves to God as members of the body of Christ, and the hosts discuss what it means to be a good steward.

(6:23) Rakhi says that the question today is how to shift our perspective to see that giving at church is just an extension of how we live as family or in our community. Nicole says that this is related to how we believe that love is sacrifice and we are called into authentic relationship. She says it’s not about checking all the boxes of giving our “time, talent, and treasure.”

(9:00) Rakhi says that it is incumbent on parishes to have multiple ways for people to be engaged without making a huge commitment.

(12:34) Rakhi says that the church was set up so that those who could give would give so that the whole church could function. She says the heart of stewardship is how we care for the whole community and to support the church in reaching out in works of mercy.

(15:00) Rakhi says that having excess income could be taken to prayer to determine where that money could go to something at the parish.

(16:00) Nicole and Rakhi discuss ways to have kids give of their time, and Nicole suggests thanking your kids when they do things that contribute to the household and praising them for the talents they have.

(19:20) Nicole suggests encouraging some tithing or almsgiving when kids are little.

(22:00) Nicole says the challenge this week is to talk and pray about where God is calling you and your family to be a steward.

  • Real Talk about Natural Family Planning

On this episode, Nicole and Rakhi discuss Natural Family Planning (NFP), including the different methods and resources available, moral implications, and how to handle any challenges that may arise. They encourage us to eliminate the stigma in talking about NFP and intimacy.

(1:09) Nicole and Rakhi share that it is Natural Family Planning (NFP) week per the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. Nicole says that it is about celebrating the gift of fertility and our bodies rather than just the method.

(4:03) Nicole says that NFP has a more holistic meaning than it has before. Rakhi acknowledges that it can be difficult despite being the right thing.

(5:39) The hosts address why NFP is worth it. They say that we were made for authentic relationship and that the use of contraception is not giving our whole selves to our spouse. For young people who are single, they say it can help with understanding their bodies in order to be healthy and happy.

(7:38) Rakhi says there is a misunderstanding in that the Church is not asking us to exist purely to have babies but rather that we are not meant to be instruments of pleasure for one another. She says it is a gift of delayed gratification and self-sacrificial love.

(9:45) Rakhi shares the benefits and challenges in her NFP journey. She calls it a team sport that includes the man as well. Nicole says that when there are challenges we should remember that intimacy means more than intercourse.

(12:07) Nicole shares that there are newer, more modern NFP options, including different models and teachers. She describes the differences between the different methods and technology that can support them.

(15:19) Rakhi says the goal is to increase communication with your partner. Nicole asks husbands to be supportive of their wives and be involved, and Rakhi says these should not be taboo conversations.

(16:45) Nicole recommends using an instructor for your method and shares a resource to find teachers.

(17:30) Nicole says that if there is a struggle with fertility, you should not hesitate to take it to prayer and ask for help. Rakhi encourages that it can be hard but that intimacy is more than the sexual act and that our marriages should be about desiring the best for each other.

(19:59) Nicole says that being on contraceptives or having certain procedures can be moral if there are medical reasons.

(21:12) Rakhi says that not acknowledging how hard NFP is can breed resentment so it is ok to own your feelings and talk to someone to walk through those periods.

(23:06) Nicole says that if we’re doing NFP right it is a constant act of prayer and discernment.

(24:04) Rakhi says this week’s challenge is to eliminate the stigma around what we need help with in this area.

About Beyond Sunday

From the publisher's feed

The demands of our different roles as Catholic spouses, parents, and working parents, can sometimes derail even the best of intentions quickly. That’s why on this podcast we talk about how parents can be more intentional in recognizing God at work in our lives, and how we as families can go deeper into our relationship with him.
