Beyond the Bit: Quantum Pathways is a weekly podcastdedicated to exploring the exciting world of quantum computing. Our mission is to explore the diverse career opportunities within this burgeoning field.Through insightful interviews with industry leaders, researchers, and emerging talent, we aim to inspire and empower aspiring quantum professionals. By sharing practical advice, educational resources, and real-world experiences, we strive to guide listeners on their journey toward a fulfilling career in quantum technology.

In this illuminating episode of Beyond the Bit: Quantum Pathways, host Amir Rasool sits down with quantum researcher and educator Jay Shah for a captivating conversation about his journey into the fascinating world of quantum computing and AI. Jay recounts the "mind-blowing" moment a decade ago, as a 16-year-old, when he first encountered the concept of a delayed-choice quantum eraser experiment, which sparked his initial interest.

Jay, who leads quantum AI efforts at BostonQ PSI, shares how he transitioned from traditional machine learning to the intersection of quantum and AI. He delves into the company's vision of solving computationally expensive engineering simulations, particularly for defence and aerospace, using quantum approaches. Jay provides insights into a published paper on quantum-assisted physics-informed neural networks for computational fluid dynamics, demonstrating how quantum can reduce neural network weights without significant accuracy trade-offs.

Beyond his research, Jay is a passionate advocate for making quantum computing accessible. He discusses his popular YouTube channel, "Bloch Sphere," which offers hands-on tutorials and open-source walkthroughs, and his upcoming Udemy course, both designed to provide visual and practical learning experiences. He emphasises that a PhD isn't a prerequisite for meaningful contributions to the field, especially in product and applied work, and shares his belief that quantum AI, though often met with scepticism, holds immense potential as an "underdog" of quantum computing.

The conversation also touches on the burgeoning quantum ecosystem in India, with government initiatives aiming to position the country as a leader in the field and create thousands of high-end jobs. Jay offers valuable advice for early learners looking to enter quantum computing, stressing the importance of a solid foundation in classical AI and quantum mechanics before diving into quantum AI. He also recommends free online resources like IBM Quantum Learning Platform and Microsoft Quantum Katas for aspiring quantum professionals. Join us to discover how Jay Shah is helping to demystify quantum computing and pave the way for its future applications.
