We missed last week’s podcast, so this episode of Unfiltered Faith: BTCW brings together two weeks of our Wednesday night Bible study.

Host Evelyn and co-host Krystal walk through Matthew 6:19–34 and Matthew 7:1–12, looking at how Jesus’ teaching about treasure, money, worry, judgment, discernment, prayer, and relationships all connects.

Throughout these passages Jesus keeps taking us deeper than outward behavior.

What has my heart?

Who am I trusting?

What am I trying to control?

Why am I saying what I am saying?

How am I treating people?

And am I allowing God’s Word to examine me before I become focused on what needs to change in somebody else?

Matthew 6 teaches us to trust the Father with what we have, what we need, and what tomorrow holds.

Matthew 7 reminds us that we also have to trust Him with people.

Let the Word work on us first—and then let what God is doing in us show up in the way we live.

What does Jesus mean when He calls us the salt of the earth and the light of the world? Did He come to do away with the Old Testament Law? Why does He repeatedly say, “You have heard that it was said...but I say to you”? And how can Jesus possibly tell imperfect people to “be perfect”?

In this episode of Unfiltered Faith, Evelyn and Krystal continue through Matthew 5 and discover a common thread running through Jesus' teaching:

God isn't interested only in outward obedience. He wants the heart.

We talk about anger beneath murder, lust beneath adultery, justice versus personal revenge, loving people who don't love us back, and why following Jesus is about far more than checking religious boxes.

We also go back to Leviticus to examine “love your neighbor,” God's command concerning the stranger, and the original context of “an eye for an eye.”

Matthew 5: The Beatitudes | Unfiltered Faith

What does it really mean to be blessed?

In this episode of Unfiltered Faith, Beyond the Church Walls Ministry and Good Grace Ministries continue our journey through the Gospel of Matthew as we step into Matthew 5 and the Sermon on the Mount.

Jesus begins with words we've heard many times—the Beatitudes—but when we slow down and really look at what He is saying, they challenge the way the world defines blessing, strength, righteousness, mercy, and even success.

We sit down for an unscripted conversation about Matthew 5:1–12, including:

• Why did Jesus sit down before He began teaching?
• What's the difference between being part of the crowd and truly being a disciple?
• What does Jesus mean when He says “Blessed are…”?
• Why does He begin with the poor in spirit?
• What does biblical meekness really look like?
• Are we truly hungering and thirsting for righteousness?
• Do we want mercy for ourselves but justice for everyone else?
• What's the difference between being a peacekeeper and a peacemaker?
• Why does Jesus suddenly change from “those” to “you” when He begins talking about persecution?
• And ultimately—if people watched our lives, would they see the Beatitudes being lived out?

We also connect Matthew 5 with Luke 4:16–22, where Jesus stands to read from Isaiah, sits down, and makes an extraordinary declaration:

This isn't about checking off a list of Christian behaviors. It's about allowing Jesus to transform us from the inside out.

The question we're leaving with is simple:

Jesus, which of these are You trying to develop in me right now?

What happens when the enemy attacks the very thing God has already spoken over you?

Jesus answered every temptation with, “It is written.” He did not rely on His feelings, argue with Satan, or accept a shortcut that required compromise. He stood firmly on the Word of God.

Before Jesus stepped publicly into His earthly ministry, God sent a voice into the wilderness to prepare the way.

In this solo episode of Unfiltered Faith: Beyond the Church Walls, Evelyn shares a summary of the teaching Jared led during Wednesday-night Bible study on Matthew chapter 3.

Together, we examine the life and ministry of John the Baptist, the prophetic words of Isaiah 40:3–8, and Jesus’ explanation of John in Matthew 11:2–14.

We explore what biblical repentance really means, why religious heritage cannot replace a changed life, what it means to bear fruit worthy of repentance, and why John consistently pointed people away from himself and toward Jesus.

We also look at the baptism of Jesus, John’s humility and obedience, and the questions John later asked while sitting in prison. His struggle reminds us that even faithful believers can experience difficult seasons—but our questions should always lead us back to Jesus and the truth of God’s Word.
