Season 1 Finale — Part 2: How I Rebuilt My Life
Sometimes the hardest part of life isn't surviving what happened to you. It's figuring out who you're going to become afterward.
In Part 1, I shared pieces of my story that shaped who I was. But the story didn't end there.
In Part 2 of the Beyond The Office Season 1 Finale, I'm taking you further into my journey—from serving in the United States Navy to building a new life in Philadelphia, pursuing my education, becoming a social worker, experiencing personal victories and setbacks, and eventually finding the courage to create something of my own.
This isn't just a story about accomplishments.
It's about rebuilding when life doesn't go according to plan. It's about discovering that the person you were yesterday doesn't have to determine who you become tomorrow.
And sometimes, the experiences that nearly break us become part of what gives us the strength, perspective, and purpose to move forward.
But there's something else I want to share with you.
During my travels in Santorini, Greece, I came across a simple message written on a rock:
"Enter as a Stranger. Leave as a Friend."
    Philoxenia.
Those words stayed with me because they reminded me of something bigger than travel. They reminded me of what we've been building together through Beyond The Office.
Many of you started this journey as strangers. You came across a video, listened to an episode, followed the page, or shared a conversation. Along the way, you gave me your time, your encouragement, and sometimes even pieces of your own stories.
And somewhere along the way, something that started as a podcast began feeling like a community.
In this special finale, you'll also see moments from my time in Santorini and hear a personal reflection about connection, gratitude, and what I hope Beyond The Office will become.
Because Beyond The Office was never supposed to be just about me.
It's about people. Our experiences. Our struggles. Our differences. Our growth. And the stories that remind us we're not as alone as we sometimes feel.
As Season 1 comes to a close, I want to thank everyone who watched, listened, shared, commented, supported, or simply gave this journey a chance.
You helped turn an idea into something real.
And although this chapter is ending, the story of Beyond The Office is only beginning.
To everyone who entered Season 1 as a stranger… thank you for leaving as a friend.

  • Before Beyond The Office... Part 1: The Story Before the Story

Before Beyond the Office… Part 1: The Story Behind the Voice

Before there was Beyond the Office, there was a young man just trying to figure out how to survive.

Before the degrees, before the career, before the microphone, and before the person you see today… there were struggles, sacrifices, mistakes, and moments when I genuinely didn't know what tomorrow would bring.

People often see where you are in life without understanding what it took for you to get there.

They see the accomplishments but not the obstacles. They celebrate the success but never witness the sleepless nights, the disappointments, or the moments when giving up seemed easier than moving forward.

And sometimes, the people who smile the brightest have survived battles nobody knows about.

In Part 1 of this two-part season finale, I'm opening a chapter of my life that existed long before Beyond the Office.

I'm taking you back to my upbringing in the Bronx, the challenges of navigating life at a young age, learning independence before I fully understood what it meant, experiencing homelessness, and struggling to find my direction in a world that doesn't always give you a second chance.

There were moments when I felt behind. Moments when I questioned my decisions. Moments when life seemed to be moving forward for everyone except me.

But somewhere between the setbacks, the uncertainty, and the lessons I never asked to learn, something began to change.

I started realizing that being behind in life doesn't mean your story is over.

This episode isn't about portraying myself as a victim or pretending I've figured everything out.

It's about being vulnerable enough to acknowledge that the road wasn't easy.

It's about recognizing that sometimes survival itself is an accomplishment.

And it's about understanding that the person you're becoming is often shaped by the experiences you once wished you could erase.

    Because here's something I've learned:

Your lowest moments don't have to become your final destination.

To everyone who's ever felt lost, overlooked, underestimated, or like they were running out of time to turn their life around, I hope you hear something in my story that reminds you there's still another chapter waiting to be written.

And to everyone who has supported Beyond the Office throughout this first season, thank you.

Some of you started this journey as complete strangers. Yet through the conversations, shared experiences, encouragement, and genuine connections, many of you have become friends.

That's something I never want to take for granted.

Beyond the Office was created to have conversations that matter. But somewhere along the way, it became something even more meaningful: a reminder that none of us has to navigate this journey alone.

    This is my story.

    Not the polished version.

    Not just the accomplishments.

But the struggles, the mistakes, the lessons, and the experiences that helped shape the man I am today.

Because before you can truly understand where someone is going, sometimes you have to understand what they survived to get there.

🎙️ Welcome to Beyond the Office: Before Beyond the Office… Part 1.

The story doesn't end here. In Part 2, we continue the journey through military service, new beginnings, education, and the experiences that would ultimately change the direction of my life.

And if there's one thing I hope you take away from this episode, it's this:

You are more than your circumstances. More than your mistakes. And more than the chapters of your life you wish you could rewrite.

Your story is still being written.

What happens when the life you once wanted isn’t the life you want anymore?

Sometimes growth isn’t about achieving the next goal. Sometimes it’s realizing that the goals, relationships, careers, friendships, or definitions of success you once wanted don’t fit who you are anymore.

And admitting that can be difficult.

In Episode 9 of Beyond The Office, Jerard talks about what it means to outgrow an older version of yourself—and why changing direction doesn’t automatically mean you failed.

We get into career changes, relationships, friendships, the pressure to stick with decisions because of how much time you’ve already invested, disappointing other people, and the uncomfortable space between knowing what you don’t want anymore and figuring out what you want next.

Because sometimes the hardest part of changing your life isn’t making the decision.

It’s permitting yourself to make it.

    In this episode:

    •  Why we make long-term plans before knowing who we’ll become
    •  Getting what you wanted—and realizing you want something different
    •  Why time invested doesn’t mean you have to stay
    •  Outgrowing friendships and relationships
    •  Changing careers without believing your previous experience was wasted
    •  What happens when other people prefer the old version of you
    •  The difference between quitting and changing direction
    •  Redefining success as you get older
    •  Giving yourself permission to start again

“You don’t owe the old version of yourself the rest of your life.”

    So here’s the question:

What are you holding onto simply because an older version of you wanted it?

  • The Conversations We Avoid

    Send us Fan Mail

We talk all day—but how often do we actually talk about the things that matter most?

Money. Mental health. Family. Grief. Failure. Faith.

These are some of the experiences that shape our lives, yet they can also be the conversations we work hardest to avoid.

In Episode 8 of Beyond The Office, Jerard explores why difficult conversations can feel so uncomfortable, where our tendency to avoid them comes from, and what that silence can cost us over time.

From growing up hearing “keep family business in the family” and “be strong,” to struggling with financial shame, vulnerability, grief, family conflict, and failure, this episode asks what happens when avoiding discomfort becomes easier than confronting what needs to be said.

    Because sometimes silence isn't resolution.

The conversations we avoid usually don't disappear. They wait.

    In this episode:

    •  Why we avoid uncomfortable conversations
    •  Money, financial stress, and shame
    •  Mental health and the pressure to appear okay
    •  Why family conversations can be especially difficult
    •  Grieving people, relationships, dreams, and former versions of ourselves
    •  Why we hide failure while we're experiencing it
    •  Faith, uncertainty, and unanswered questions
    •  How to approach a difficult conversation with intention
    •  The difference between avoiding a problem and actually resolving it

Before the episode ends, Jerard leaves you with one question:

Who do you need to have a conversation with that you've been avoiding?

    Maybe it's a parent.
     A child.
     A sibling.
     A partner.
     A friend.

Or maybe the conversation you've been avoiding is with yourself.

  • When Helping Everyone Starts Hurting You

    Send us Fan Mail

What happens when being the strong one starts costing you more than you realize?

In this episode of Beyond The Office, Jerard talks about the pressure of always being the dependable one—the friend, family member, coworker, or professional everyone turns to when something goes wrong.

Being helpful can feel good. Being needed can feel meaningful. But somewhere along the way, constantly showing up for everyone else can leave you exhausted, resentful, and disconnected from your own needs.

    This episode explores:

    • how people become “the strong one”
    • the difference between helping and needing to be needed
    • why saying no can feel so difficult
    • burnout in helping professions
    • the difference between supporting and rescuing
    • why strong people often struggle to receive help themselves
    • how to protect your capacity without losing your compassion

Because being dependable is a beautiful quality—but it should not require you to destroy yourself in the process.

    Question for you:
Are you the person everyone comes to when life gets heavy—and if you are, who do you go to?

  • What Does Success Really Look Like?

    Send us Fan Mail

What happens when you accomplish the things you once prayed for… but still find yourself wondering, “Is this really success?”

In this episode of Beyond The Office, I take a deeper look at what success actually means—and how easy it is to measure our lives by someone else’s timeline.

We chase degrees, careers, money, homes, relationships, recognition, and titles believing that once we get there, we’ll finally feel successful. But sometimes you reach the milestone and realize the feeling you expected never came.

So maybe the question isn’t, “Am I successful?”

Maybe it’s, “Whose definition of success have I been living by?”

We talk about comparison, accomplishments, setbacks, starting over, gratitude, purpose, and learning to recognize the progress we often overlook while chasing the next thing.

Because comparison can have you disrespecting a life you once prayed for.

  • Travel Changed How I See People 🌎

Travel used to mean seeing somewhere new.

Now, it means something completely different to me.

The more places I visit, the more I realize how easy it is to form opinions about people, cultures, and communities we've never actually taken the time to understand.

Travel has challenged some of my assumptions. It's introduced me to different ways of living, communicating, building community, and looking at the world.

And one of the biggest lessons I've learned?

“The more I traveled... the less I judged people.”

In this episode of Beyond The Office, I talk about how travel has changed my perspective—not just as a traveler, but as a person.

We get into cultural differences, stereotypes, unexpected kindness, community, cultural humility, and why sometimes stepping outside of what you know is exactly what you need to grow.

Because travel isn't only about the places you visit.

It's about the person you bring home.

  • The Weight We Never Talk About. Why So Many People Feel Alone

🎙️ Episode 4: The Weight We Never Talk About

Why So Many People Feel Alone

    We've never been more connected...

We can text someone in seconds.
     Video call across the world.
     Follow thousands of people online.

Yet so many of us still feel alone.

The truth is, loneliness isn't always about being by yourself. Sometimes it's feeling unseen in a room full of people. Sometimes it's smiling through the day while carrying things no one else knows about.

In this episode of Beyond The Office, we're having an honest conversation about:

    •  Why loneliness is becoming more common
    •  The challenge of making meaningful friendships as adults
    •  How pride can keep us from asking for help
    •  The difference between being alone and feeling alone
    •  Why genuine connection matters more than ever

One message I hope stays with you:

"Loneliness isn't the absence of people... it's the absence of connection."

If you've ever felt isolated, disconnected, or like no one truly understands what you're carrying, this conversation is for you.

🎙️ Episode 3: The Military Changed Me More Than I Realized

People often thank veterans for their service, but they rarely ask how that service changed them.

For me, the military was more than a uniform. It taught me discipline when I lacked direction, resilience when life got difficult, and the value of serving something greater than myself.

It also challenged me in ways I never expected and shaped the man I continue to become today.

In this episode of Beyond The Office, I reflect on the lessons I carried with me long after I took the uniform off, how military service influenced my life beyond the Navy, and why some of the greatest transformations happen long after the title changes.

Whether you've served, have someone you love who served, or you're simply navigating your own season of growth, I hope this conversation reminds you that every experience has the power to shape who you become.

People often assume that because social workers help others, they always have life figured out. The truth is, we're human too.

In this premiere episode of Beyond The Office, I share what people don't always see behind the profession—the pressure of helping others while managing your own life, the emotional weight that comes with the work, and why caring for everyone else doesn't make you immune to struggle.

Whether you're a social worker, healthcare professional, first responder, caregiver, or simply someone who's always expected to "be strong," this conversation is for you.
