In this panel, the panelists discuss the recent rise in populism, explore the role of globalization in this phenomenon, and try to understand ultimately, how regimes can best serve the people.

Martha Habash, PhD, joins us to discuss the Jesuit Worldwide Learning program. 

Jesuit Worldwide Learning: Higher Education at the Margins (JWL) is a collaborative global partnership comprised of organizations, institutions, companies, and above all, people, to provide tertiary education to those who would otherwise not have access to higher learning opportunities. It draws on the rich and centuries long Jesuit tradition of higher education and through a blended on-site and on-line approach mobilizes the resources of Jesuit and other worldwide networks of educational institutions.

Creighton University's JWL Liaison and Site Coordinator is Dr. Martha Habash, Associate Professor of Classical & Near Eastern Studies, Dept. of Fine and Performing Arts. Dr. Habash also serves as Advisor to JWL on Middle East Operations.

Gail Jensen, PhD, Dean Emeritus of the Graduate School and College of Professional Studies joins us to discuss her tenure and accomplishments in this position.

Some history of GSG:

The Graduate Student Government was initiated by a group of students who longed for a student government that would serve the interests of and foster a sense of community among graduate students.  By fall 2007, with the formation of a graduate student listserv and a draft of a Constitution, the GSG was well on its way to becoming a recognized Creighton student organization. In December 2007, two former undergraduate Creighton Student Union members were nominated as President and Vice President.  They utilized their student government experience to assist with the implementation of formal organizational structures within the GSG, thus beginning the transition into an active and functioning Creighton student organization. In need of additional officers and representatives, the GSG founders solicited participation from the graduate school community via word of mouth, informational sessions, and the graduate school listserv.  By January 2008, the GSG had a functioning Executive Board and a number of representatives from various programs.
