The Soligas have thrives for thousands of years in the forests of India. In recent decades, they were forced from their ancestral land and made to build a whole new way of life. But they fought back, and they won. Now, the Soligas live in their forest and help protect their diety, the tiger. This story is a great lesson in how indigenous rights are a part of conservation. And when indigenous people are protected, the environment can be protected too.

This week, we are headed to Peru to learn all about the Quechua. They are one of the most recognized cultures in South America with the second most common language. As descendants of the Inca, the Quechua have held on to their traditions and culture for generations, including a remarkable ability to cultivate many types of crops.

The Quechua are very accepting of visitors and want to share their way of life with those who love to learn- like us!

The Nenets are indigenous people of the northern arctic, in what is today the Russian Federation. They rely heavily on reindeer as a source of food, shelter, transportation, and religious practices. After generations of traditional practices, the Nenet way of life is changing rapidly. From climate change, big oil companies, and other groups encroaching on their land, the Nenets are forced to adapt- even their language is proof of that. Listen is to learn more!

We are excited to introduce part of 1 of our first expedition! We will jump into our experience with the Gullah in part 2, but for part 1, we are going to learn about the background of the Gullah people, who are all descendants of slaves sold in America through the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade.

This episode goes through the history of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, where the culture of the Gullah originated.

Some content in this episode was challenging for the hosts to discuss, and will be difficult to hear, but we believe it is important to share history- even when it's difficult.
