In this podcast, Beyond Zero radio speaks to Marty Andrews from Chargefox and Russ Shepherd from EVolution Australia about Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure and consumer apps. Chargefox aims to simplify electric vehicle charging and management across fleet, private and public networks.
""We have the solutions, what are the problems?" Marty Andrews is the founder of Cogent Ventures and co-founder of Chargefox. The former business is based in Melbourne, supporting start-ups across Australia to "get great ideas off the ground and helping them to grow". The latter was the main topic of discussion in this session to enlarge on the two previous podcasts on EVs useful for those either with electric cars or considering the purchase but concerned about the availability of supporting infrastructure such as charging stations.
At present the number of EVs on the road varies significantly from Norway (seen as the leader) to Australia with only 0.1% of cars purchased. A comment by Marty that "petrol is so 2016" - one might say Australia is hardly emerging from the 20th century with no emissions restriction on road transport and no date for the banning of the sale of petrol and/ or diesel reliant cars (like other countries) knowledge of which could no doubt encourage the sale of EVs.
Marty referred to connectors, adapters and cables some of which are different and it may be necessary for owners to carry their own adapters. Marty predicted that it would probably be 1-2 decades before autonomous vehicles come on the market.
