In this podcast, Beyond Zero radio's Anthony Daniele and Matt Grantham talk to Thomas Qvist Vestesen, CEO of Danvest Group from Denmark. The Danish company is bringing their wind-diesel and solar-diesel technology into Australia, for powering off-grid, rural and remote locations. Compared to conventional diesel generators the reduction in fuel consumption, the high wind penetration provides diesel fuel savings  and CO2 emissions reduction in the order of 50 to 70% per year.

In this podcast, Beyond Zero radio talks to Sarah King & Dr Bjorn Sturmberg from Stucco cooperative, the first multi-unit residence to achieve a unified solar panel and battery network in Australia. In Newtown, Stucco began as a co-op for low-income students of Sydney University. In 2015, the City of Sydney Council awarded Stucco an "Environmental Performance Innovation Grant" to the value of $80 000. The solar system has 114 panels and 36 batteries, producing 30 kWh with storage capacity for 42.3 kW and is estimated to provide 80% of Stucco's energy usage. The solar project cost $130 000 ($97k for the technical system and $33k in volunteer work and Stucco funds) and is expected to pay for itself in six or seven years. The project was managed by Louis Janse van Rensburg and Bjorn Sturmberg, both former residents of Stucco, with media and publicity handled by Sarah King (2016 President of Stucco).

Stucco has set out to deliver Australia's first community-controlled solar installation for apartment buildings. Our guest speaker in July is the architect Tim Adams. Tim has over 40 years of building design experience and is at the forefront of zero energy and energy efficient house design. Tim will present “The House with No Bills”!

Tim was also the instigator of the highly successful BDAV 10 Star Challenge and his early adoption of energy rating tools such as NatHERS makes him a leader in thermal rating, operational energy and life cycle assessment.

Through his company F2 Design, Tim is collaborating on 10 Star housing projects at The Cape sustainable housing project, Sociable Weaver and much more, all with the goal of providing sustainable fully passive dwellings designed for Australians conditions and that do not need heating and cooling.
