    Isaiah 60:1

    How thankful I am for Jesus! For the grace that he gives us, the sacrifice that he made for us, and the light that he is in the darkness. The next verse after this one says “See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the people, but the LORD rises upon you and his glory appears over you.” So where is our help in times of darkness and trouble? He’s there! Always shining his light into us and through us. Since we have the indwelling of the spirit of Christ, we can and should also be that light to others. When times are dark like the world we have come to dwell in today, we can be assured that Christ is our light, and he will continue to draw people unto himself and continue to save by his grace.

    Prayer: Lord reveal the light of Christ in my life that I can shine into the darkness in this world. Help me to remember that even a tiny light can be seen miles away in utter darkness and the darkness cannot overcome the light. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

    When we choose to follow Christ we also naturally want to be Christ-like. The Bible gives us many examples of things to stay away from but thankfully the Bible doesn’t stop there. In Philippians 4 God also gives us alternative positive things to focus on by saying “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” Try focusing your mind on heavenly things and see if it helps shift your attitude and your direction in life.

    Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Watch your character, it becomes your destiny. -Frank Outlaw

    Prayer: God I know that my mind is a battlefield. Help me take captive and discard every thought that would exalt itself above you and every thought that is contrary to the nature of Christ. Help me to focus on the positive and reveal the fruits of the Spirit in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

    God gives us many promises. They even come to us in many ways. Sometimes he speaks almost audibly. Sometimes we dream prophetic dreams. Sometimes we read of his promises directly from the word. One thing we can be sure of, is that God is a keeper of promises. He is truth. This scripture reminds us of the promise of Christ. Imagine how Mary must have felt once the angel came and gave her the promise of being the mother of Christ. I’m sure doubt tried to set in, and she had struggles of her own, but she continued to trust in the Lord and not her own thoughts and understanding. She continued to pursue and believe in the promises of God in her life, and we should too!

    Prayer: God I thank you so much that you have a perfect will and a perfect plan for my life. Help me Lord to trust in you and be faithful to know that your promises are coming because you are truth and life, and doubt and fear are liars. Thank you for your promises, in Jesus’ precious name, Amen.

    Sometimes in our Christian walk we can feel defeated. If you sit in that defeat and wallow in it, it certainly can feel like you are shriveling up into a ghost of your former self. The way to get away from feeling like this is to have a cheerful heart. Do something that makes your heart happy. You might be someone who gains joy from helping others and performing an act of kindness. You might feel uplifted when listening to worship music. Heck, you might be a person that just needs to watch some adorable puppy videos to get out of your negative feelings. For many people getting outside into nature and feeling the sun on their skin lifts their spirit. Whatever things bring you joy and put a smile on your face, do those things. If you can bring cheer back to your heart it is medicine for your body and spirit. God commands us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves, so we must first love ourselves to be able to properly love our neighbor. Take care of yourself today friend.

    Prayer: God help me to feel joy today. Let your healing waters flow in my life and lift me up in my time of need. I trust that you will answer in your perfect timing and according to your perfect will for my life, but right now I just need to be loved and uplifted. God fill me with your love, compassion, and joy today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
