The first is from Tony, who wanted to know what the psalmist meant when he says be still in Psalm 46. In order to answer Tonys question, Hank details the entirety of the Psalm to illustrate the meaning behind the phrase, Be still, and know that I am God. The second question is from Casey, who wanted to ask about the parable of the wheat and the tares in Matthew chapter 13; specifically, if the gathering and burning is referring to the return of Christ. Of parables, such as the one Casey is asking about, St. John Chrysostom writes that no one will be able to empty the parable of all its wealth. The deeper you dig the more divine thoughts will gush forth, for it is a never-failing spring. Parables are not only proverbs and riddles, but they are also allegories and as such contain hidden meaningsways through which the wise may grasp the mysteries of the kingdom. They reveal truth to those whose hearts are prepared. In this specific case, the binding of the tares into bundles to be burnt references the condemnation of the tares upon Christs coming in judgmentas the Nicene Creed puts it, He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead

For example, prior to the nineteenth century, Christians were the most vocal opponents of slaveryyou think of people like John Newton, author of the wonderful song Amazing Grace who once was a slave owner before converting to Christianity and becoming one of the most vocal opponents to slavery. But today you have secular progressives extolling the virtues of the Enlightenment and denouncing Christianity as though it is a religion of racism and slavery. If you think about the Enlightenment clearly, you dont just think about social reform, scientific development, or progress; what you think about is some of the main figures within the Enlightenmentfigures who are lauded. People like Voltaire, who said, The negro race is a species of men as different from ours as the breed of spaniels is from that of greyhounds. That they are of a different nature and greatly inferior.

According to Scripture, all human beings are made in the image of God and are designed to be conformed to His likeness. As such, racism, while it has raised its ugly head within the context of American churches, is abjectly incompatible with genuine Christianity. Historic, orthodox, biblical Christianity posits that all people, irrespective of skin color, are descendants of one human couple. Indeed, orthodox Christians have historically rejected the idea that there are multiple races and have been mocked and ridiculed as a result. An evil twin to racism is rich-ismthe predisposition to honor the rich and disfavor the poor. This is precisely why Saint James warns Christians of wanton partiality: If there should come into your assembly a man with gold rings, in fine apparel, and there should also come in a poor man in filthy clothes, and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say to him, You sit here in a good place, and say to the poor man, You stand there, or Sit here at my footstool, have you not shown partiality among yourselves?.If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture (You shall love your neighbor as yourself) you do well; but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors (see James 2:113).
