Episode 57 John 1 and @russellsreservebourbon 10 year - You're Not Alone

This week on the podcast we chat about feeling alone or unwanted and we talk about how Christ was unwanted in his own land and by his own people.

I share an interesting personal story about feeling alone, and Christ knocking on the door of my heart and how he used random connections to let me know that he cares and is constantly thinking about me.

I also had a unique thought this week: we often say that God is watching OVER us, but after learning more and more about his human side... he's not watching over us like some distant being far away, he's watching WITH us. Sitting right next us.

Episode 56 Luke 24 and @georgedickel @tabasco Barrel Finish Whiskey - Is He Living In You?

This week on the podcast we chat about Luke 24: Jesus's resurrection, his appearance to the disciples, he snacks on some fish, and he opens their mind to the Scriptures. He gives them a command saying “don't begin to tell others yet but stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”

For us to live there are many things we need in us: air, water, food. We can be surrounded by those things but unless we actually take them IN to our bodies we will die.

The same is true in our spiritual lives. We can be completely surrounded buy religion, the church, spiritual talk, but if the Holy Spirit doesn't live IN us, if Christ doesn't live IN us then we are spiritually dead.

So, are our we surrounding ourselves with the religious, or are we actually asking Jesus to come live IN us?

This week we review Dickel Tabasco Barrel Finished whiskey. It's Dickel’s signature smallbatch whiskey that's finished in a Tabasco Pepper sauce barrel. The bottle even looks like a Tabasco bottle! Great marketing touch here. I was surprised how sweet this was on the palette while finishing with the familiar @tabasco heat! Delicious!

On the podcast this week, Jesus has an interesting conversation with the two criminals on the crosses next to him in a powerful example of God's grace.

The story of the two criminals is only a few verses long but it's one of the best examples of God's grace in the entire Bible in my opinion.

#54 Luke 22 and Bone Snapper Rye - Jesus: The Most Human Example Of All

Luke 22 is a huge chapter. So many good things in here it’s hard to pick just one! So this week we focus on Jesus and his struggle with what he has to do.

Have there been times in your life where you had to do something you didn’t want to do or maybe you had trying times or difficulties. Have you ever just want to hide under a rock or pull the covers up over your head and disappear?

That’s exactly how Jesus felt so when we are going through times of trials & struggles & we just want to pull the covers over our head or crawl under a rock and disappear somewhere, we can take comfort and we can find strength... knowing that our Savior not only knows what’s best for us but also experienced the same human feelings of just wanting it to stop. Wanting to run away to not have to deal with things.

He has an intimate knowledge of us and everything that we’re going through in this life. The ups and the downs. He’s there for us to celebrate the triumphs and to comfort us in the trials.

Jesus wanted to throw in the towel so badly that he sweat drops of blood and an angel had to come comfort him and renew his strength.

The bone snapper Straight Rye we’re sampling this week definitely got our attention.

Spicy notes of pepper and rye, with a deep smoky finish. Ryes are great in your favorite cocktail because they have a stronger flavor profile and play well with others. This would make a fantastic old fashioned!

This week we chat about Luke 21, a widow who gave all that she had, and we sample and review @suntorywhisky “Toki”

Luke 21 opens with Jesus standing in the temple watching the rich toss their gifts into the collection box. Then a poor widow came by and dropped in two small copper coins.

Jesus said, “This poor widow has given more than all the rest of them combined. For they have given a little of what they didn't need, but she, as poor as she is, has given everything she has.”

These four short verses are such a powerful reminder for us to give of what we have. Whether we've been blessed financially, have various skills or talents, or even if we are down to our last two pennies like the widow… we all have something we can give to help others.

Even if we don't have the financial means to be able to help someone, it only takes a moment to be kind. Take time to be kind.

Luke 20 and @masonaleworks Naughty & Nice - Jesus Asks Some Questions He Doesn't Need The Answer To

We have a great show this week that is perfect with Christmas only three days away! Do you have your shopping done? Yea... me either.

In Luke chapter 20 Jesus asks some questions and it's interesting that when he asks questions he really doesn't need information. It's almost like he's asking the question just to prove how foolish the issues were that the Pharisees and Sadducees we're trying to corner him on. They're just so petty and his responses are just perfect “Jesus” responses.

@masonaleworks ask us the question: Do you prefer Naughty or Nice? Naughty is a rich Porter with peppermint and lactose that obviously hits with notes of peppermint, vanilla & the creaminess you’d expect from a lactose brew. Nice is it crisp, clean IPA that’s mildly bitter with a bright citrus punch. Both of these come in at 7% ABV.

I picked these up when I was in @inclinespirits_cigars grabbing a brew for a buddy. If you guys live in Lake Tahoe area definitely stop in and see the folks @inclinespirits_cigars they're incredibly knowledgeable/hospitable and always happy to chat about beers, bourbons or any other spirits!

Luke 19 & Blanton’s Single Barrel - The Wee Tax Collector

Episode 51!! I think that’s how many Star Wars movies there are now since Disney took over... right? 🙄🙄 Said in my best “movie guy” voice: Star Wars Episode 51: Return Of Star Wars because we have no new ideas!!

Maybe they could make an epic Star Wars about bourbon and beer where they sit around in that Cantina, have a couple drinks and tell stories about making the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs... idk. I think it would be a hit.

But I digress...

This week we discuss Luke 19 and Zacchaeus’ promise and Jesus’ beautiful response and His example of not caring what other people think about who he’s hanging out with or what he’s doing.

We also review a fantastic Blanton’s Single Barrel that is oh so smooth, with a velvety mouthfeel. Sweet vanilla notes come out first followed by familiar Oaky flavors and a caramel finish leaves you wanting to go back for another sip... again and again. And maybe again! (BTW, 2 bottles is better than 1, right?!?)

He relates to everything around us... far more than just 2 or more galaxies. Our God is that big and He wants us to never stop praying. He wants to answer us quickly!!

Luke 17 and 7 Troughs Distilling Cask Strength Bourbon - The Thankful Leper

Episode 49 we discuss Jesus healing 10 lepers, but only one expressing thanks. Does that mean the other 9 weren’t thankful? Unexpressed gratitude is ingratitude.

Think about that for a minute. Unexpressed gratitude is ingratitude.

I went to the grocery store on Thanksgiving and I expressed my thanks to the cashier for working on Thanksgiving Day and taking time away from her family. She was blown away that someone thanked her just for doing her job.

I explained that I’m sure all the shoppers buying last minute items were thankful as well, but I wanted to actually express my thanks.

So when we give thanks, let’s really GIVE thanks. Give it try. GIVE thanks to someone, even if it’s just for doing their job.

Now I’m going to give a HUGE THANKS to Tom and his team at @7troughsdistilling for this amazing Cask Strength Straight Bourbon!!
