Isaiah 5 uses the song of the vineyard to expose Judah's covenant unfaithfulness. God had graciously cultivated and provided for His people, but He found injustice, corruption, pride, and rebellion instead of righteousness. In our last Study we began looking at the 1st Direction, under Case 3 that John Flavel gave to us under the 3rd Season of life – How public and tender hearts may be relieved and supported when they are overweighed with the burdensome sense of Zion's troubles. On Page 446, John Flavel told us – Settle this great truth in your hearts, that no trouble befalls Zion, but by the permission of Zion's God; and He permits nothing out of which He will not bring much good at last to His people. Now, in this message, I will relate to you his 2nd and 3rd Directions. Direction # 2 – Ponder this heart-supporting truth, in reference to Zion's trouble: That how many troubles soever are upon her, yet her King is in her.

God's appointed means for humanity to understand the gospel of salvation and the will of God is preaching. Titus speaks of God manifesting and demonstrating His word through preaching, which has been committed to those called and equipped to preach the Gospel. We look at why preaching is so important and God's timeless method to lift up Christ and build up believers in their faith.

The church has one head, the Lord Jesus Christ. Christians need to beware of men who would usurp Christ's position of authority and draw followers after themselves through pride, flattery, and false doctrine.
