  • In Me is your help
Hosea was the prophet of God's zero hour. For their rebellion against God and their awful sin, the Northern Kingdom was about to be overrun by the Assyrians and its people taken into captivity. Hosea, the 8th century BCE prophet, whose painful personal life was like a metaphor for God's relationship with a straying Israel, once again appeals to them to come to repentance. Note the text "O Israel you have destroyed yourself. But in Me is your help." The nation had dug its own grave. But there was still help. That help was only in God himself. We can see ourselves here. Our sinfulness has brought us under God's wrath. But there is help in Him. In love, He sent His own Son. Our salvation is through Him becoming our substitute and through the Spirit gift of the Son, giving us power to be different.

  • Isaiah 6: The Holy God Who Cleanses and Sends
Isaiah 6 reveals the holiness of God, the sinfulness of man, God's gracious provision of cleansing, and the call to faithful service. Dave Jenkins explains how Isaiah's vision points directly to Jesus Christ, whose atoning work removes the guilt of sinners and sends His people to serve Him faithfully. • Jesus—Our Foundation
Paul tells the Church in Corinth they were not taking advantage of the Spirit of God He had been given to them. He calls them Babes in Christ because they are behaving like normal humans, rather than people endowed with the power of the Holy Spirit. the spiritual people God wants them to be. He then moves to the responsibility of the leadership in Corinth. He tells them to build the body on the foundation Paul laid—Jesus the Messiah! Jesus, alone, is the sole foundation of the church, and they need to be careful to build on that foundation with eternal values, rather than human values, converting their boasting away from men and toward God alone.

  • Yet Her King is In Her
In our last Study we began looking at the 1st Direction, under Case 3 that John Flavel gave to us under the 3rd Season of life – How public and tender hearts may be relieved and supported when they are overweighed with the burdensome sense of Zion's troubles. On Page 446, John Flavel told us – Settle this great truth in your hearts, that no trouble befalls Zion, but by the permission of Zion's God; and He permits nothing out of which He will not bring much good at last to His people. Now, in this message, I will relate to you his 2nd and 3rd Directions. Direction # 2 – Ponder this heart-supporting truth, in reference to Zion's trouble: That how many troubles soever are upon her, yet her King is in her.

  • The Men Who Desire the Headship
The church has one head, the Lord Jesus Christ. Christians need to beware of men who would usurp Christ's position of authority and draw followers after themselves through pride, flattery, and false doctrine.
