Exodus (Program #73) – The Angel of Jehovah for His People to take Possession of the Promised Land (1)
After the escape from Egypt, God’s brought His people to the mountain of God, Sinai, where the sky was clear and He could unveil His own portrait and a plan for His eternal dwelling with His people. We would be all quite happy and satisfied to have such an experience with God. But this was not the goal or the end of His plan for His people. For after this, He sent His angel to lead them to a place, a place that He had prepared for them, the good land, a type of our wonderful Lord Jesus. Stay with us today for another remarkable life study of the Bible with Witness Lee.
Mark (Program #24) – The Move of the Slave-Savior’s Gospel Service (12)
The Lord Jesus said in Mark chapter 9 verses 42 through 45, “And whoever stumbles one of these little ones who believe into Me, it is better for him if a great millstone is placed around his neck and he is thrown into the sea. And if your hand stumbles you, cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life maimed than to have two hands and go away into Gehenna, into unquenchable fire. And if your foot stumbles you, cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life lame than to have two feet and be thrown into Gehenna.” For a life study touching the believers reward and punishment in the next age.
Exodus (Program #72) – The Implications, Indications and Significances of the Ordinances of the Law (3)
Several times a year, God’s people in the Old Testament were instructed to come together to enjoy very specific feasts unto the Lord. Of course, as Christians today there is no such commands for us to outwardly keep these annual feasts. But why then are they directly referred to in the passages of the New Testament? Actually, the Christian life should be a life of feasting continually. This is our theme on today’s life study of the Bible.
In chapter 21, 22 and 23, we saw yesterday that there were 3 feasts mentioned. We want to continue to look at them a little further today because the feasts in the Old Testament always show us something very marvelous regarding our enjoyment of Christ in the New Testament dispensation.
Mark (Program #23) – The Move of the Slave-Savior’s Gospel Service (11)
In Mark chapter 8 the Lord Jesus taught His disciples that they need to deny themselves, just as He also teaches us that so that Christ could be their replacement and become everything to them as He wants to be everything to us.
Although the disciples saw this revelation they did not practice it or live according to it. To see the revelation is one thing but to live it is another.
Exodus (Program #71) – The Implications, Indications and Significances of the Ordinances of the Law (2)
After the giving of the Ten Commandments in Exodus chapter 20, the Lord continued for 3 more chapters to give item after item of regulations regarding man’s relationships. These added items are called “ordinances”, many if not most, seem to us to have nothing whatsoever to do with us as New Testament believers. They deal with such things as treatment of slaves and the ancient feasts and rituals of Jewish religion; and, even such things as “not boiling the kid in its mother’s milk”. So how do we as Christians regard these Old Testament details? Do we just skip over and dismiss them? Or, in the light of God’s New Testament ministry, is there a real and meaningful application of these items for us? We return once again today to the book of Exodus and the remarkable journey of God’s people out of their bondage of worldly captivity and through the wilderness.
We’re continuing today to look at Exodus chapter 22 and 23, chapters that as we said offer many items all contain in these ordinances that were supplements or additions to the basic ten Commandments that we’re all quite familiar with. In an earlier message, we heard that though we cannot directly see Christ in the ten original commandments, these supplemental ordinances contain all of the rich details of Christ – what do we mean by this kind of speaking?
These commandments show us who God is and what He requires but they do not reveal to us what God does…..Who could claim to be not guilty when such a demand is made from the Holy God Himself, revealing what He is in His nature, His holiness, His righteousness and really not supplying us according to these ten commandments with any way to carry them out?
Now, we know that whatever things the law says (this is a quote from Romans), it speaks to those who are under the law that every mouth may be stopped and all the world may fall under the judgment of God because out of the works of the law, no flesh shall be justified before Him, for through the law is the clear knowledge of sin. That’s from Romans chapter 3 and it really shows us that even if we think that we’re keeping the law, this does not justify us. We’ll see in this message that the ordinances really open up a way for sinful men to come to a Holy God by introducing a lot of aspects that are types of Christ and His redemptive work – they bring us into God’s economy, God’s way of redeeming man so man could enjoy Him. So we have to praise the Lord for the ordinances that were given in the Old Testament in addition to these Ten Commandments because these show us Christ as our Saviour in His redeeming work which is altogether according to His plan, His purpose, His economy. So just listen as it is pointed out regarding to this marvelous redemption of the ones who should have been killed with the first born in Egypt.
Mark (Program #22) – The Move of the Slave-Savior’s Gospel Service (10)
Mark chapter 8 verses 27 through 29 tell us, “And Jesus and His disciples went out into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them, Who do men say that I am? And they told Him, saying, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but others, one of the prophets. And He questioned them, But you, who do you say that I am? Peter answered and said to Him, You are the Christ!”
Exodus (Program #70) – The Implications, Indications and Significances of the Ordinances of the Law (1)
The Bible is the divine revelation. As such, we need to realize that every chapter contains diamonds and gems. But if you read the Bible you know there are difficult and hard chapters. Exodus 21, 22 and 23 for examples deal with slaves and murders and liers. Where can the gems possibly be within such chapters as these? Stay with us for this life study of the Bible with Witness Lee.
The focus of our message today is to see the gems and crystals contain in these 3 chapters of Exodus; 21, 22 and 23. We’re going to see today that these chapters concerning the addition of the ordinances to the basic commandments are full of, in Witness Lee’s words, implications, indications and significances. The goal of this ministry is always to get beyond the superficial and to get into the depth.
Exodus (Program #69) – Sundry Ordinances of the Law
We are all familiar with commandments and ordinances. It seems everywhere we turn, we’re met by these rules and regulations. The same is true in the latter part of Exodus where we find many ordinances and commandments. But have you ever seen the sweetness of these commandments of God? You’d want to stay with us for today’s life study of the Bible, featuring the ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee.
The genuine ministry of the New Testament is not a miraculous things produced in a short period of time. It requires much preparation involving the cross, and the spirit in the context of proper Body life. This comes to mind because the central human figure in Exodus is Moses. We realize how extensive was the time given to his preparation. This word preparation is rich in spiritual significance. We are happy to enter into a fellowship that releases something that is backed by decades of spiritual preparation and a life time of studying the Bible, seeking the Lord, experiencing Christ and living the Christian life in the church life.
Our message today is going to be a spiritual treat for many of our listeners. We are going to gain an entrance today, into the sweetness that’s evidence in the ordinances that were added to the commandments. That may sound a little strange to combine those words, sweetness with ordinances and commandments…
Mark (Program #21) – The Move of the Slave-Savior’s Gospel Service (9)
In Mark chapter 8 verse 34, the Lord Jesus says, “if anyone wants to follow after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.” If we would come after the Lord by gaining Him, experiencing Him, enjoying Him and partaking of Him then we need to deny ourselves. Take up our cross and follow Him. But what does it mean for us to take up our cross? This is the subject of our life study today.
Mark (Program #20) – The Move of the Slave-Savior’s Gospel Service (8)
In Matthew, Luke and John the order or sequence of the stories does not necessary follow the actual time sequence in which they took place. The gospel of Mark is unique among the four in this way. Not only so, but the sequence of the healing and the miracles in Mark’s gospel are progressive. That means in each case signifies a step in our spiritual development and maturity and we are brought onward and always
Chapter 8 beginning at verse 27 and chapter 9 may be considered the high peak of the disciples’ experience in their contact with the Lord Jesus. After been healed by the Lord in a general way that is when there were saved, they then experience His detailed and specific dealing until their heart had been dealt with. And then their spiritual ears were opened and their tongues were filled with His word and eventually even their eyes were healed of their blindness so that they can receive the high vision portrayed in this rich portion of God’s word.
