I remember an experience in Siberia about 30 years ago. We had chartered an Antonov 24 with 25 members of our staff on board. I told the pilot, “I’m paying for this, so I want to fly it!”

He put me in the pilot’s seat, disconnected the autopilot and said, “You are flying.” I loved it – but the other passengers were terrified!

There is a spiritual lesson in that. God wants to take control of your life. He is the only One who can bring you safely through every difficulty.

The Bible says, “God is love.” He is not only a judge; He loved us so much that He sent His Son to pay the price for our sin and set us free. But God wants more than our forgiveness – He wants our hearts. He wants our love. He wants our lives.

I learned something about love when I was 21. I was preaching my first major evangelistic crusade when an 18-year-old musician gave her life to Jesus and joined my team. I fell in love with her and wanted to marry her. But I needed to know that she loved me as much as I loved her.

She did. And for all these years, her love has never changed. She stood with me through cancer, prison and my years of ministry in the Soviet Union.

That helps me understand something of God's love for us. He loves us individually and completely. He knows our difficulties, our failures and our needs. Yet He asks us to respond by giving Him our hearts.

I have seen God's power work in extraordinary ways. In one Russian stadium, a crippled man came forward asking me to pray that he would stop smoking. My interpreter did not translate my prayer correctly. Instead, I prayed, “God, this man is crippled. Heal his leg.”

The man thought I had prayed about his cigarettes. He threw them on the ground and, with his previously broken leg, jumped on them. Then he suddenly realised he had been healed. He ran the length of the football field and jumped over the barrier!

God saw his heart – and God sees your heart.

On another occasion in Ukraine, I asked everyone with broken bones or crippled limbs to come forward. Twelve people came. I prayed, and every one of them was healed. That day, hundreds experienced miracles.

I have experienced God's healing in my own life. I have been healed of throat cancer and lung cancer. I have known hunger and spent a year in prison, but through every circumstance, God has remained in control.

Even my release from prison was a miracle. Just three days later, I was preaching to 10,000 people in London. Over the following two years, I preached to around two million people and saw a quarter of a million come to Christ. God had taken control of the circumstances of my life.

Whatever you are facing today – sickness, sin, trouble or fear – God knows your need. But He does not simply want you to come to Him for what He can give you. He wants your heart.

Jesus first loved you. He loved you enough to give His life for you. Now He is calling you to give your life to Him.

If you will seek Him with all your heart, you will find Him.

Give Jesus your heart. Let Him take control of your life.

“God, I give You my heart. You first loved me. You loved me enough to send Your Son to deliver me and forgive me. I give You my love, and from today I will live for Jesus and demonstrate my love for You. Amen.”

I’ve learned something through my life: God loves you.

I remember bringing up my youngest daughter and the battles we sometimes had. I had to discipline her, but today she loves me deeply and works full-time in the mission. That taught me something about the heart of a father.

Deuteronomy 4:29 says:

“But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

God has been a Father to me. Sometimes He has had to discipline me, but His love has never changed. And that is what God wants to be for you – a Father who loves you, guides you and sometimes corrects you.

I learned another lesson about trusting God when, at 90 years old, I finally learned to fly. The instructor had his hand on the controls, and everything was fine. But when he took his hand away and said, “You’re flying,” I was afraid!

It made me think about our relationship with God. As long as we try to control our own lives, we will struggle. But when we trust Jesus and allow Him to take control, everything changes.

In John 9, Jesus encountered a man who had been blind from birth. His disciples asked, “Who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

But Jesus gave a very different answer: “This happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”

Jesus then made mud, put it on the man's eyes and told him to wash in the Pool of Siloam. The man obeyed – and came back seeing.

What a remarkable miracle. He had never asked Jesus to heal him, and he had never even seen Jesus. Yet one encounter with Christ completely transformed his life. When people questioned him, he could only say, “I was blind but now I see.”

In July, thousands of Christians gathered together in Kyiv for the National Day of Prayer. For 12 years since the annexation of Crimea and the Donbass, Ukraine has experienced unimaginable suffering and hardship. Yet they give thanks to God, because against all odds, they have survived another year. By His grace, the people have endured, preserved their unity; and their longing for true and lasting peace has only grown stronger.

The decision to go ahead with our 11th National Prayer for Ukraine in the very heart of Kyiv in this, the most critical summer of the war, was a very heavy one. But the heads of ALL Ukrainian Churches agreed, they had a responsibility before God and before the people to continue with the Prayer.

Receiving the Kingdom like a child | Luke 18 reminds us that salvation is not earned by status, wealth, or religion, but received through simple trust in Christ.

‘People were also bringing babies to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. But Jesus called the children to him and said, ‘Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.’’ (Luke 18.15-17, NIV.)

In Luke 18, Jesus teaches that the kingdom of God must be received with the simplicity and trust of a child. This is not about age, but about the posture of the heart. The Gospel is not complicated religious rules which must be followed; it is faith expressed as humble dependence on God.

Jesus then speaks with a ruler who asks, “What shall I do to inherit eternal life?” His question reveals something important: eternal life is not something we can purchase, earn, or secure through good works. It is an inheritance made possible through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

When Jesus says, “None is good, save one, that is, God,” He exposes the need we all share for forgiveness and salvation. The ruler had kept the commandments from his youth, yet Jesus identified the one thing still holding him back: his attachment to wealth.

The issue was not simply money, but surrender. Jesus invited him to give to the poor, treasure heaven, and follow Him. The ruler went away sorrowful because what he possessed had quietly become what possessed him, (verse 23).

Jesus’ words about the camel and the needle’s eye (verse 24) show how impossible salvation is in human strength. But He also gives the answer: “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” Salvation is God’s work from beginning to end.

Those who follow Christ may leave things behind, but what they receive is far greater: forgiveness now, God’s provision in this life, and everlasting life in the world to come, (verse 29-30).

Jesus then points His disciples toward Jerusalem, where He would suffer, die, and rise again. They did not yet understand, but His death would open the way into the kingdom.

The question remains for us today: are we willing to let go of what holds us back and receive eternal life with simple, childlike trust? (verses 31-24.)

“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7.24.)

I have built my life upon the Rock, which is Jesus Christ. I do not follow personalities or preachers; my desire is to know Christ. When I have faced the storms of life – through imprisonment and cancer – I have called upon God.

When I had throat cancer, I prayed, “If You want me to leave everything and become a full-time missionary and evangelist, I need a miracle!” That night, God healed me. I left behind my pastor’s salary and devoted myself fully to smuggling Bibles into Communist Europe. Later, by faith, I built the house where I still live today.

At that time, seven houses were built along the same hillside road. Of those seven, mine is the only one that has not suffered from subsidence. Why? Because it was built on solid foundations.

It is the same with our lives. We must build upon the solid foundation of Jesus Christ. When the storms come – and they will come – those who are built upon Him will not be shaken. But those who build on anything else will eventually fall.

Throughout Matthew 9, those who came to Jesus recognised who He truly was. The ruler, the woman with the issue of blood, and the two blind men all recognised Him as the Messiah and placed their confidence in Him.

Their example speaks to us today. Recognise who Jesus is, come to Him, and reach out to Him by faith. He will never reject those who come to Him. Religion cannot forgive sins or heal the sick, but Jesus can. The question for each of us is this: Is your faith strong enough to come and touch Him? If you come to Him in faith, God will answer you.

Over the years, I have witnessed many miracles. Jesus is still the Healer today. I never want people to look at me – I want them to look to Him. While there are times when sickness can be connected to sin, as the Apostle Paul warns in Corinthians about examining ourselves before taking communion, not every illness has that cause. In this man's case, Jesus made it clear that his blindness was an opportunity for God's glory to be revealed.

I am looking for revival, for the Fire of the Holy Spirit, for the Power of God. Fire is mentioned many times throughout the Bible. Around 90 references to fire are directly linked to God, and on 11 occasions God answered by fire. Even at 94 years of age, I am still seeking more Fire, more Power, and a deeper experience of God.

The promise given to us is the Holy Spirit and fire. In Acts 2, fire actually appeared, yet many in the Church today do not seem to recognise the need for the Fire of God.

When I was 14 years old and seeking the Holy Spirit, I never felt that those praying for me had the Fire. I was searching for something they themselves did not possess. I wanted what the first disciples had.

Then, when the Holy Spirit came upon me, I felt and saw something extraordinary. I received what I had been seeking – a powerful experience of the Fire of God.
