Why do we spend so much time, money and effort to figure out the exact time of Christ's return?

God holds all people accountable for their actions. Some today might think that Jesus is absent and not aware of our actions. The reality is that He is aware, and everyone will be held accountable when He returns.

ESV passage 1 Thessalonians 5: 1-11

A significant difference exists between a period and a comma. A period represents the ending of a subject matter or a particular event. A comma represents a temporary or slight pause and then a continuation of the subject or event. Paul was concerned about how the Thessalonian believers understood the death of loved ones. We need to see their passing as a comma and not the end. We are able to do this because of the hope we have in the promised return of Christ.

How does the way a person lives impact your willingness to listen to that person?

The often-used statement of “do as I say and not as I do” is a weak excuse for poor behavior. The person making this statement knows what is wrong with his or her behavior and what changes are needed. Paul was confident this attitude would not be true of the believers in Thessalonica. Instead, they consistently demonstrated love to one another as they daily sought to obey God’s Word. This week we’ll study the important truth that the gospel makes a difference in the way believers love and live.

Parenting is not for the weak at heart. Parents feel distress for those whom they love unconditionally, hoping their warnings will be heeded. The church at Thessalonica was like a child to Paul, and we see him experience the thoughts and feelings of a parent with this church. In the process, both were encouraged through the faithfulness of the other.

Human history is headed somewhere, and every day is one day closer to Christ’s return. This week we’ll discover that believers can live with confidence knowing that God’s kingdom is eternal.

One of the benefits of walking with God for many years is seeing firsthand how He can be trusted and that the Bible is right about everything. The Bible is right about money, true contentment, sex and marriage, leadership, relationships, and so much more. Long-term believers who live by God’s principles see them validated again and again.

Pride is such an ugly word. We may even characterize ourselves as self-confident to avoid thinking of ourselves as prideful. Many of us live life as though we are the ones in control of what happens. Eventually, something will happen in life that causes us to wonder if we are really in charge. Believers must be careful to honor God in all things.
