In the previous episode Moses striking the rock, we saw his disobedience to God that led
Moses not to enter the Promised land
No 1 Partial obedience is not obedience.
We see in the story that Moses took the staff from God’s presence as instructed. However, that was only partial obedience. He did not follow through. In fact, you can see his frustration with these Israelites because he called them rebels. His anger led him to only partially obey what God commanded. As we can see, partial obedience is no obedience at all.
. Actions determine whether you trust God or not
There is an old saying that actions speak louder than words. This is true for Moses and all of us. It is one thing to say you trust God, but just saying it does not make it true. You must back it up with your actions because your faith in God goes beyond just your words
3.3. Some decisions come with irreversible consequences.
Moses did not enter the Promised Land, which resulted from his decision, but he still maintained his relationship with God. If you have sinned, your relationship with God is not over. There is forgiveness for you, but there may also be consequences.
When you consider this story of Moses in Numbers 20, I am reminded of why it is so important to finish well. While Moses got to see the Promised Land, he never stepped foot in it. Sometimes the choices we make have consequences that cannot be reversed. For this reason, you must be mindful of your decisions, even when you are frustrated or angry. Saying the wrong thing or making the wrong decision can change your life, so learn from Moses and choose wisely. You don’t know what is waiting for you on the other side of a wrong choice.
Later we see joshua is annointed as the new leader for israelites.
Joshua, whose name happens to mean, “Yahuah saves,” points to the Grace of Yahuah, Jesus, and the Gospel. When we are not strong and courageous, we can look to Jesus and trust that yahuah God ultimately fulfilled the new covenant through Him keeping the law perfectly (Romans 8:3–4) and applying that righteousness to us.
When we are discouraged and fearful, we can hold on to that same promise that God gave the Israelites. He will never leave us nor forsake us.
The crossing into the Promised Land was not based on Joshua’s great leadership or military skills. It was because God is faithful. Take heart, we can be strong and courageous; not because of our faithfulness to God, but because of God’s faithfulness to us.
