  I. Introduction to Typologies
· Scope
1. The Old Testament is the revelation of truth from God.
2. A sovereign God governs all human history.
3. God’s Genesis 3:15 promise to stop Satan through a future deliverer created a forward-looking momentum to all subsequent revelation.
4. God revealed Himself and His future salvation to Old Testament believers through Old Testament characters, events, objects, etc.
5. Escalation: the later event, person, or thing that can be said to be the fulfillment of the type is much better and greater than that which foreshadows it.
6. Biblical Warrant: For something to be considered a type, there must be exegetical evidence in the original text that indicates that what the text is dealing with is intended to be a model or pattern for something to follow in history.
7. Covenants. the progression of the covenants throughout the narrative structure of the Bible creates, controls, and develops the typological structures across Scripture.
  · Definition: A person, place, object, or event that God ordained to act as a predictive pattern or resemblance of Jesus’ person and work.
· Questions for Typology Assessment:
1. Is the thing real?
Unlike an allegory which may be fictional, a type is always a real someone or something.
