Don't be late for the meeting.
I won't. I'll try to be there early.
開會可別遲到了。
不會的。我會儘量早一點到。
be late for是「遲到」的意思。late指的是時間上的慢，而 slow 則是指速度上的慢。late的用法如下:
I slept late this morning.
(今天早上我睡過頭了。)
John arrived late for his own wedding.
(約翰在自己的婚禮上遲到了。)
It's late. You should go to bed.
(已經很晚了。你該上床睡覺了。)
I'll try to be there early.的early，是late的反義字。「try to+動詞」是「試著去~」、「努力去~」的意思:
 
Try to come early. (儘量早點來。)
I'll try my best. (我會盡力。)
I tried hard but couldn't make it. (我已經很努力了，但還是辦不到。)
