Yes, you read that correctly, you can get pretty far without studying French at all, as long as you figure out how to say French words in a manner the French will understand.
With so many identical words in English and French, you owe it to yourself to take the time to learn to pronounce them, because it broadens your vocabulary without having to learn them. If you can pronounce these words, you can understand them.
