Big Nothing

We got the chance to sit down with one of the authors of the study that convinces Melfi to ditch Tony at the end of the show. He talked to us about his views on criminal psychology, whether Melfi could have helped Tony, and whether there's any hope for our crime-ridden world.

First, some long-buried outtakes from the series are brought to light which show the REAL reason Tony needed counseling. Then in Part 2 of our examination of therapy in The Sopranos, we go a little deeper into David Chase's thoughts on therapy and how his own experiences with psychotherapy come through in the show, what Tony uses therapy for, and why nothing ever seemed to stick. Plus we dig into what we can find about Chase's childhood and do a little armchair psychology of our own 👀

Oh boy, a double-feature! This is Part 1 of our discussion of therapy in the Sopranos: we talk about the development of Melfi's role, her decision to terminate Tony's therapy, and the model of therapy in the show, and then start to think about why therapy didn't work for Tony. Stay tuned for Part 2 after the break!

We're back babie! Recorded last November, this episode begins with our highly-anticipated predictions for the 2020 presidential election. Then we talk about class analysis and the Sopranos.

Podcasting while working full time is rough, but we're going to aim to put an ep out once a month from now on. We're also working on some bonus content so stay tuned.

Farting. Shitting. Vomiting. In our sexiest episode yet, we discuss the symbolic role of the gastro-intestinal tract in The Sopranos. We spend a lot of time with 1:5 'College' and 2:13 'Funhouse.'

A little bit late and a little bit short, we address Trump's latest troop-respecting scandal, and ask ourselves: does Tony Soprano, noted respect expert, respect the troops?

In this debut episode, we discuss HBO's classic crime-style goof-em-up 'The Soprano Family,' and why it remains essential viewing during our global descent into barbarism and climate apocalypse.
