    Having played and scored for Wigan Athletic, John moved into coaching with Wigan's 1st team, before moving up to Hibernian in Scotland, finally joining Accrington Stanley where he is assistant manager to John Coleman

    John's wealth of experience and knowledge in the high performance environment allows us to delve into  what it's really like to be involved in the hectic schedule of the football league

    Today's interview is with Jon McCarthy, who is the assistant manager of Southport FC First Team. Jon made over 700 career league appearances 

    as a player, as well as 18 appearances for Northern Ireland.  Jon joined the backroom staff at Chester before taking the managerial job following the dismissal of Steve Burr. He then went on to Port Vale working as the fitness coach. And is now in the position of assistant manager under Liam Watson at Southport.
