Air India has not been having an easy time with its balance sheets lately - a situation made worse by the deadly crash of one of its 787 Dreamliners in Ahmedabad earlier this year.

Now, the airline is seeking a US$1.1 billion lifeline from its shareholders, Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines.
