Bigger Than Business: Burnout, Boundaries and Mindset for Women Who Want Their Life Back episodes

  • What It Actually Means to Hold More (Without Burning Out) Ep. 7

Feeling overwhelmed in your business, even though it’s successful on paper? Struggling to grow without burning out? You’ve already got a lot: clients, cash flow, a family, a life. But having a lot isn’t the same as knowing how to hold a lot.
In this episode I break down what it actually means to hold more, how your nervous system and limiting beliefs decide your capacity for growth, and how to build a business that feels lighter, not heavier. Plus a real week from my own life where I had a day in London with a friend, a massage, a day with my mum and three dance classes, and still had a great week in business.

Spoiler: it’s not what you’re carrying that matters. It’s how you’re carrying it.
    In this episode:

    • The “can I have a friend round?” analogy: why your nervous system decides how much you get to hold, and how one hard experience can quietly shrink your capacity
    • Rocks in the river: how unconscious limiting beliefs block your flow and push you into decisions based on external validation rather than your own North Star
    • Why the things you want are already on your doorstep, and how to make space in your “house” so your next level can come in
    • The red flag thought that nearly had me cancelling on my mum, and what I did instead
    • Trusting yourself to hold more (and expanding your riverbanks so they don’t burst)

Key takeaway: Your capacity grows when you trust yourself to hold more and remove the limiting beliefs taking up space. Spot the red flag thoughts, delete them, and tell your nervous system: we’ve got this.

  • Reduce Overwhelm in Your Business: 4 Must-Have Perspectives | Ep 6

Your business is doing well, so why are you already overwhelmed by lunchtime on a Monday? If you’re a business owner who feels like everything is urgent (finishing off work in the evenings, losing hours in Slack or Telegram supporting clients, trying to spin all the plates and constantly worrying that you've dropped one), this episode is for you.

In this episode, I break down the four must-dos to reduce overwhelm week in, week out in your business.

Spoiler: it isn’t about working harder or simply getting calm. It’s about seeing what’s not serving you, treating your nervous system like the boss that it is, having more fun and choosing a North Star, so you can grow your income without burning out or working evenings and weekends.

    In this episode:
Take back control: why you can’t change what you’re not aware of, and the journalling questions that show you what’s sucking your time and energy

The Friday review: how my mastermind clients celebrate their progress and spot where they defaulted to old patterns that week
Why your nervous system runs 95% of your decisions on autopilot, and why growing your business from survival mode always ends in burnout
Why regulation isn’t just about getting calm, it’s about growing the capacity to hold more
The red flag reflex: catching the fear-based thoughts that stop you having a 30-second conversation that could lead to a big sale
Be more kid: why your energy is your richest currency, and why “I’ll have more fun after a good sales month” is a red flag thought
Have a North Star: why you need to stop acting like there’s a ticking time bomb and choose one to three priorities
Key takeaway: Overwhelm isn’t a sign you need to work harder. It comes from a nervous system in survival mode, and when you spot your patterns, grow your capacity and choose your focus, you create income and business growth without ever needing to come anywhere close to burnout.

  • From Infertility to Impact: The Story Behind "Life is Bigger Than Business" Ep. 5

Most business owners start their business to have more freedom and then end up working harder than they ever did in their 9-5.

I did, and in this episode I share why that was a painful realisation. I'm sharing the story behind my "Life is Bigger Than Business" mission: almost five years of infertility, two miscarriages, finally meeting my twin girls, leaving teaching, and then catching myself running the same pressure pattern in my own business.

Spoiler: you don't have to choose between wildly ambitious goals and a full life. You get to have both, and your business should be life-giving, not something that takes from you.

    In this episode:

    • Red flag thoughts: why the pressure to "get it right" stopped me telling this story for years
    • What infertility taught me when, for the first time, working hard couldn't fix the problem
    • Why I clock-watched for nursery and grieved when one of my twins dropped her nap, and the "pressure, hard work equals results" pattern behind it
    • Why life is bigger than parenthood too, and how dancing two evenings a week lets me show up from a place of overflow

Key takeaway: Your business should never deplete you. If it is, the answer isn't working harder; it's building the nervous system capacity to hold your business in a way that gives you energy rather than takes it.

  • Booked Out but Burnt Out? What It Really Means to Be a Well-Rested & Rich CEO Ep. 4

Your business is booked out, so why do you still feel burnt out? If you're a business owner who knows exactly how you want to live (no working evenings, proper weekends off, higher prices) but somehow can't make it happen, this episode is for you.

In this episode, I explain what I actually mean when I talk about being a well-rested and rich CEO, so we're all on the same page. Spoiler: it isn't about scaling back your ambition. It's about being able to hold big business goals and still have a big, full life alongside them, without your business taking 90% of your energy.

    In this episode:

    • What a well-rested and rich CEO isn't, including why "I'll rest when…" almost never happens
    • Why shiny object syndrome is your nervous system pushing what you want into the future because it doesn't feel safe yet
    • Why there's no one-size-fits-all version, and how knowing your own values shapes what "well-rested and rich" means for you
    • How she holds clients without carrying them around like a backpack full of bricks
    • Why a five-minute conversation shouldn't take five hours of your headspace
    • The many meanings of "rich": rich in income, but also presence, peace, energy, fulfilment and aliveness
    • Red flag thoughts: the fear-based thoughts flying under the radar that keep you overworking, playing small or stuck in indecision
    • Why you can't grow your business until you can hold what you've already got

Key takeaway: If there's a gap between the standards in your head and the life you're actually living, it's not a discipline problem. Your nervous system hasn't caught up yet, and that's the work.

  • How to Switch Off as a Business Owner (Without Losing Revenue) Ep. 3

Started your business for freedom but now work more than you ever did in your 9-to-5? You're not alone, and it doesn't have to stay this way.

In this episode of Bigger Than Business with Jenna Holloway, Jenna breaks down exactly why so many successful business owners can't switch off, even on holiday, and what to do about it. The real reason isn't poor time management. It's your nervous system treating rest as a threat, like an overreactive smoke alarm going off every time you try to relax.

Jenna walks you through three switches that help you take back control of your business, set standards that protect your energy, and retrain your nervous system to believe that rest is safe (and even income-generating).

If you've ever answered client messages from the sofa at 9pm, checked your phone during your child's swimming lesson, or lain awake with your brain buzzing about work, this episode is for you.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • Why business owners often work more than they did in employment, and why making more money won't fix it on its own
    • The plane analogy: the difference between flying through turbulent cloud and flying in clear blue sky
    • Switch 1: Take back control. How to hold your business like a conscious parent holds boundaries with a child, so your business stops running your life
    • Switch 2: Set your standards. Why standards are the evidence of your identity, plus a 10-minute journaling prompt to meet the rested, successful version of you
    • Jenna's personal standards, from phone-on-silent to phone-in-the-drawer after school pickup
    • Switch 3: Treat your off-work time as sacred. How to retrain your nervous system's "smoke alarm" so rest feels safe
    • What switching off really looks like, and why receiving business inspiration at the weekend is a good thing (when you handle it from calm, not urgency)

    Journal prompt from this episode:
Set a 10-minute timer and write: If I knew my business would do even better when I rested, what would I do differently?

  • Burnt Out Business Owner? Why Your Life Is Bigger Than Business Ep. 1

Are you a burnt-out business owner making good money but running on empty? In this first episode of Bigger Than Business with Jenna Holloway, I'm sharing why I started this podcast and why growing your business should never cost you your life.

You started your service-based business for freedom. But somewhere along the way, it turned into evenings at the laptop, weekends "just catching up," and emails answered from the sun lounger on holiday. You love your work, but you can't remember the last time you properly switched off.

I've been there. As a new business owner and mum to IVF twins, I found myself physically present but mentally at work, missing the moments I'd fought so hard for. This episode is the story of how I broke that cycle, and why it's now my mission to help you do the same.

Welcome to Bigger Than Business with Jenna Holloway. I'm so excited you're here.

Because your life is bigger than your business.
